Barring any last minute change, Godswill Obot Akpabio, Senator representing Akwa Ibom North West District at the Nigerian Senate and Senate Minority Leader, will defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), Nigeria’s ruling party from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Nigeria’s main opposition party.

Nigeria’s integrated online media platform, ALEDEH recalls that Akpabio’s purported defection gathered momentum on Sunday, August 5 when a picture of him with Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari in London, the United Kingdom surfaced online.

Moments after the picture went viral, Nigerians took to the micro-blogging site, Twitter to react, with some questioning why the former Akwa Ibom governor, who is a strong member of the PDP will quit the opposition party at the time the PDP is currently receiving high-profile politicians from the APC.

Though many had thought Akpabio will be the only person to decamp to the ruling party in Akwa Ibom State for the main time, an exclusive report by Political Stew, however, suggests otherwise.

According to Political Stew, the Senate Minority Leader, will not only decamp to the APC but will be joined by three (3) members of the House of Representatives from Akwa Ibom State as well as twelve (12) members of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly.

Political Stew, an all politics website also reports that Akwa Ibom State Governor, Emmanuel Udom held a caucus meeting of the PDP in the state over the said issue.
