"Hello, So a friend is about to get a job in a pharmaceutical coy for a medical rep role.
One rule is that they would have to tender their originals cert. That whenever they need it, they would write an application stating why.
Please is this even legal?what's your opinion?

This is Nigeria where your performance review over a period, say 6months or 1 year is only based on the things you didn't do right in the one-month to the actual review.

A reflection of why Nigeria is a failed state.

This friend of yours is obviously going to be given goods worth in excess of 10 million naira. Asking you to drop the original of your certificate is some sort of collateral for the company. These days, guarantors hardly comply. The only reason the certificate will be returned is if the person completely zeros his account at the point of exit from the company.

If this friend of yours intend to do that, he can go ahead. If he already has doubts, he better hold on to the certificate and rejects the job. Fidson Pharmaceutical, Greenlife, Seagreen and Embassy pharmaceuticals, these are companies I know that requires you to drop off your B. Pharm or any other certificates before you resume duties. Many others are now following that route.

About the legality of this, I don't even know. Anyways, think well before you do.
