MOVIES THAT WERE RUINED BY SEQUEL(S) - Karate Kid (1984): A testament that greedy producers milking a blockbuster till the last drop didn't start today. The sequels, Karate Kid 2 & Karate Kid 3 were terrible. and have all but ruined a great legacy. A new KD continuation, Cobra Kai, debuting earlier this year in a tv show format, has done a commendable job in pairing some of the damage though. - Tremors (1990): Awesome survival movie, conclusive ending. Yet, some genius came up with a "brilliant" ideal to create a sequel. Terrible idea. Kevin Bacon refused to reprise his lead role, and it unsurprisingly tanked in the box office. They tried with another followup, and it tanked even more than the 2nd. They tried again. It tanked again. I think at this point, the f**kers don't care much about the ruined legacy any more. They are in it for the quick cash grab. - Independence Day (1996): What in the actual f**k?! Everyone thought this epic alien invasion movie is done and dusted. Legacy intact and all. What we didn't factor in is the unassuageable greed of Hollywood producers. The sequel was a pile of hot garbage, and completely decimated the legacy of the original. - The Rocky franchise: How such a classic movie franchise - in fact, one of the best all-time movie franchises - could put out a giant turd like Rocky V is beyond me. Now, when millennials think of Rocky Balboa movies, they are more likely to think of the more recent epic colossal f**kup than the classics. Now, that's how to ruin a great legacy. - Terminator 1 and 2: The sequels ruined two great movies, esp the iconic Terminator II. - Transformers 1 and 2: The first 2 Transformer movies were great, but the sequels were gigantic robot p*rn without the feel good factor. Epic fail, directly proportional to ruined legacy. - Taken 2008: A revenge movie but with an happy ending. A massive hit. A recipe for disaster as it turned out. The sequels should never have happened, and have all but ruined what would have made for a perfect standalone movie. - Home Alone 1 and 2: The first two were iconic. The multiple sequels however, were disasters. - REC (2007): The first one is a fantastic horror movie that is brilliantly paced, and a fear of the unknown is present throughout. The sequel start filling in blanks that were better left empty, and the third one almost seems like a parody. Legacy ruined. - Man of Steel (2013): The sequel was really terrible, and I feel sorry for Henry Cavill. 3 Likes |

KoiceReloaded: Did you copy and paste this? Transformers 1,2,3,4 are all the same. They all have the same problems. The original was problematic itself Rocky 1,2 and 4 were great. Creed has received the rocky series. |

JackBizzle: Part 1&2 were way better than part 3 and 4. Part 4&5 were totally disgusting to watch especially part 5 which was the worst of the franchise. After part 2, the franchise started depreciating. I can still watch part 1 to 3 again, but will never watch 4 and 5. |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Nobody: 2:26pm On Aug 11, 2018 |
JackBizzle: Dude, I don't do copy and paste. Anyone well acquainted with Transformer franchise will iterate to the fact that it went downhill after part 2. It is a well known fact. You're partly right on Creed as it is connected to the Rocky Balboa franchise technically, when you factor in the Rocky and Apollo Creed angle, but going so far as saying it has revived the franchise is tantamount to being overly optimistic, amigo. |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Nobody: 2:33pm On Aug 11, 2018 |
Beorn: Exactly. Part 3, 4, and 5 failed to reignite the magic of part 1 and 2. In fact, the more they stretched the story, the more burnt-out it became. |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by JackBizzle: 3:03pm On Aug 11, 2018 |
Beorn: Lol......part 5 was the absolute worst. But honestly I do not see any difference between 1-4. |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by JackBizzle: 3:05pm On Aug 11, 2018 |
KoiceReloaded: Creed is a massive movie. It got good reviews. I loved it. Creed 2 is out in December. Honestly, I see transformers 1-4 as the same. ![]() |

JackBizzle: Case in point of my "Movies ruined by their sequels" post. The sequels sucked so bad that you couldn't even differentiate the much higher quality of the earlier two films from their terrible sequels. Textbook of how a ruined legacy generally works. Creed is a good movie, but still have miles to go before it can effectively repair the damage inflicted on the epic franchise by the infamous Rocky V. Let's see how Creed 2 will fare. |

KoiceReloaded:Was The Vanisher cameo so sweet, you had to put him 7 positions ahead of Vanessa. I don't think Vanessa was a prop to advance the plot. She was integral to the plot. Or are you implying those Deadpool near-death experiences were irrelevant? |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Kaycee7(m): 3:45pm On Aug 11, 2018 |
KoiceReloaded:Technically, Man of Steel hasn't had a sequel. |

GREAT MOVIES THAT COULD BE RUINED BY 2019 SEQUEL(S) - It: Based on Stephen King novel of the same name, everyone knows there is more to come, yet this is a typical example of a movie that can easily be ruined by the planned sequel. - Den of Thieves: Would have made for a decent standalone, but somehow, a sequel is planned, and could massively ruined what is presently a decent heist movie with a twist. - Unbroken trilogy: The last part of the trilogy Glass is billed to premiere early 2019, and could well go very wrong, thereby ruining the legacies of the earlier 2. - Avengers franchise: The newest bit of the Avengers franchise is planned for next year, and could either be force majeure or a colossal f**kup that could ultimately send the whole franchise toppling down. - Toy Story: Toy story 1, 2 and 3 were really good and could have made for a perfect trilogy. Alas, the newest sequel planned for 2019 could very well ruin all that. Here's to hoping it won't tank. - Top Gun: The original Top Gun introduced me to Tom Cruise, and has gone on to be inspirations for many flight movies. Such an enviable legacy may become all but history if the sequel planned for next year were to bomb in the box office. - John Wick: The last bit (I hope) will be on theaters early 2019, and could be catalytical in the worst possible way. 2 Likes |

Kaycee7: "The Vanisher" gag made me laugh, so yes. It is so perfectly executed that I didn't even know he was real until he got roasted by electric current. I don't really think Vanessa arc was important. She is killed off and it should have been left at that, but she kept popping up to have monologues with Deadpool, thereby eating up precious time. Well executed, but I saw through the artful ploy. |

Kaycee7: Yes, it did. I'm shocked you didn't know that. It's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. |

KoiceReloaded: Ah ah......bro. These movies have sequels that have done well already. Marvel has never failed with the avengers or its universe. The first 2 movies in the unbreakable trilogy were great. The trailer for the 3rd movie is mind-blowing. John Wick is 50/50. The first two John Wick movies were okay. However, the plot is getting stretched thin. |
Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Nobody: 8:13pm On Aug 11, 2018 |
JackBizzle:Doesn't matter. It only takes a single domino to send a whole pack toppling down. One very dire sequel has the potential to ruin a franchise. Has happened again and again. JackBizzle:There are no guarantees in live. Marvel's good run will eventually end one day, and 2019 Avengers might be it, though I sincerely hope not. JackBizzle:Trailers don't mean sh*t. Most trailers are misleading, and only show the good parts as a rule, after all, they are nothing but marketing gimmicks. Thus, it's unwise to judge an upcoming movie or any movie for that matter by a mere trailer. JackBizzle: I really liked part 1 and 2, and I sincerely hope part 3 won't end up tanking the series. |

KoiceReloaded:Me too. But on a re-watch, you'll notice his parachute walked and jumped off the ramp by itself. I don't really think Vanessa arc was important. She is killed off and it should have been left at that, but she kept popping up to have monologues with Deadpool, thereby eating up precious time. Well executed, but I saw through the artful ploy.So would you have preferred Blind Al or Weasel to provide the motives she gave Deadpool to change his goals? KoiceReloaded:How do I put this? BVS is as much a sequel to Man of Steel as Captain America: Civil War is to Iron Man 3 and Ant-Man. So, technically, I feel Man of Steel hasn't had a sequel yet |
