It is west versus south; it is the metropolis versus the ancient city; it is a battle that transcends football; it is a battle for supremacy, legacy and honour. It is the UNIBEN Royals and the UNILAG Marines. It is Collegiate soccer at its finest and the Higher Institutions Football League (HiFL®) proudly sponsored by Stanbic IBTC promises to deliver as always.

It’s down to 22 men; to shoulder the hopes and dreams of the thousands of students. The battle line has been drawn and come tomorrow evening one campus will be agog while the other will look to pick itself up. It promises to be a classic between two star-studded sides, and of course both teams will be keeping a keen eye on their future quarter final opponents should either win.

Across the other centers, in Sokoto; UDUS Sultans will look overturn a first leg deficit when they tackle the BUK Stallions in front of their home fans.

In the far east of Calabar, consolidation will be the keyword when Unical Malabites go toe to toe with the UNN Lions while the match between UNIJOS Highlanders and the ATBU Bravehearts is still up in the air.

All of tomorrow’s winners are sure to claim their spot in what promises to be a loaded quarter final.

Students and alumni from all participating institutions are invited to turn up en masse at the stadiums to support their teams as they are poised to journey where none have before.

HiFL® is approved by the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) and endorsed by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). The league is overseen by the National Universities Commission (NUC) and the Committee of Vice-Chancellors (CVC). The winner of this HIFL® 2018 season will represent Nigeria at the 2019 International University Sports Federation games in Naples, Italy.
