BREAKING: APC wins Rivers state bye-election (DETAILS)

The much anticipated Rivers State Port Harcourt Constituency 3 House of Assembly by-election result held in the city of Port Harcourt has finally been announced as the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate stormed out with a victory against the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)

The returning officer who declared the candidate of APC, Hon. Dickens Worlu winner revealed that Dickens garnered total votes of 1,633 to defeat Mr. Chinaka Mmerukini who polled 449 votes.


The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has rejected the result and called for cancellation alleging the poll lacks transparency.

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has suspended the PHALGA Constituency II Elections that took place today over the widespread use of violence and Thugs.

In a statement signed by Obo Effanga, the resident electoral commissioner obtained by PoliticsNGR, the commission said, “the hoodlums stormed the various polling units and registration areas disrupting the voting activities, destroying and carting away electoral materials, including smart card readers and ballot boxes.

“As a result of this widespread and wanton disruption of the electoral process as reported by field supervisory presiding officers and supervisors from the Commission and also having reviewed all situations, the Commission in accordance with provisions if section 26 of the electoral acts of 2010(as amended) hereby suspend the election forthwith “

Returning officer is an INEC Adhoc staff appointed to head the collation of this particular election result. He is not a staff of INEC. Most times INEC use university lecturers as returning officers.

Resident Electoral Commissioner is the state head of INEC and he/she is a full staff of INEC.

And again suspension is not cancellation. However suspension can lead to cancellation or upholding of the results.

Why APC uses life threatening violence to win elections baffles me. This is a party that claims to be better than PDP. After ballot box snatching and destruction, APC will be declared winners. It happened in Kogi, now it is happening in Rivers. From which result? Written results in collaboration with INEC.
