A logo must be simple. Maximum of 3 colours. One colour is the best. But I prefer 2 colours.

Non of the logos meet up with the standard logo. All the logos can bring confusion.

Ondo state logo is the only one that meets up

Flags, Coats Of Arms, Symbols And Monuments Of Nigerian States

All Nigerian regions and territories had their own individual flags and symbols in 1960. This was also the case with the new states that were created in 1967. The state flags usually consisted of the Nigerian flag, with the state coat of arms in the middle of the flag.

However, the Murtala regime (c1975) discouraged the use of state flags. This was at a time that the military regimes of the 1970s were moving us closer to a unitary system by taking over state and private owned newspapers, television stations and universities. States were instead encouraged to use the Nigerian coat of arms, placed in a circle with the name of the state around it, as their symbol.

Some states (e.g. Lagos) resumed using their pre-1975 flags and coat of arms after the return to democracy in 1979.

The return to democracy again in 1999 has emboldened more states to design new flags and symbols (eg Cross River, Osun and Bayelsa). Some states have resumed using their pre-1975 flags (eg Kano and Lagos), while some states still use their military era symbols (eg Adamawa).

This thread contains flags, coats of arms, symbols and monuments of (1) Nigerian states (2) Nigeria (3) defunct states and regions of Nigeria (4) heads of state of Nigeria

Section 4 (2) of the flags and coat of arms act is still in force. http://www.nigeria-law.org/FlagsAndCoatOfArmsAct.htm

If you want to know why many of the coats of arms have two animals at the side, a shield at the center and an animal or object at the top, or if you want to know what the various colours and parts of the coats of arms are called, then click the link below.

There's an ancient art and science that studies the use of coats of arms. It's called heraldry.

Nigeria's history is rich.

I wish that 1914 amalgamation did not occur.
Reflecting on the first national anthem, are Nigerians standing in brotherhood?

While some states have gone as far as even having an anthem, some doesn't even have a flag talk less of coat of arm.

Then come to think of it, what are the duties of the individuals in the houses of representatives of these states?

Then in some cases like that of Ogun and Oyo, there have been some unnecessary changes in coat of arm probably due to change in government, that should be greatly discouraged.

You're a good observant. There was no mention of the National Pledge.
The Nigerian National Pledge was written by Professor (Mrs.) Felicia Adebola Adedoyin in 1976.

Professor Adedoyin’s children were already reciting the Oath of Allegiance in their school in New York, USA and also the State Pledge (which was introduced on 1 June, 1976) in Achimota School in Accra Ghana and they wanted to know why they didn't recite any Pledge while they were in Nigeria. She told them that Nigeria did not have any national pledge. This exchange with her children spurred her to conceive a new national pledge for Nigeria, which she wrote in June 1976. The work was published in the Daily Times of July 15, 1976 in an article titled "Loyalty to the Nation, Pledge".

Barrister Adewusi, who was a mutual friend of the Adedoyins and Lieutenant General Olusegun Obasanjo (the then head of state) read the Daily Times article and eventually presented it to Obasanjo in August 1976. General Obasanjo modified it slightly and adopted it.

In September 1976, he decreed that all school children should recite the pledge in their school assemblies daily.

The Pledge

I pledge to Nigeria my country,
To be faithful, loyal and honest.
To serve Nigeria with all my strength,
To defend her unity and uphold her honour and glory,
So help me God.

The green element and livestock stand for our commitment to agriculture, while there are other elements that explained our links with the north and the south.

The new coat of arms and symbol of Anambra state is made up of the following elements:

UGO DI EBUBE: -Ugo di ebube stands for Royalty, Pride and Excellence in Igbo cosmology. No other bird typifies the Anambra person better than the Royal Eagle.

NKWUNKWU in Igbo cosmology denotes plenty. The pair here represent the wealth of talents that abound in both the male and female citizens of Anambra.

THE NIGER BRIDGE: – This engineering artistry is iconic. The Niger bridge symbolizes the gateway into the heart of the Igbo nation.

IGWEBUIKE.. the 21 active currents…Symbolises our 21 local government areas. This represents the continuous developmental energy of our people

OKIKEOKIKE: – symbolizes dignity, honour, nobility. It is positioned at the base because the foundation of our aspirations is based on the time honoured igbo tradition of truth, honesty and hardwork…..the tapestry on each of the tusks symbolizes the industry, dexterity and creative essence that lead to the height of our achievements.

THE PENNY: – The round coin under the roped pot is the penny of the old days. The penny sign stands for Aku na Uba. We are proud business and craft men who travel around the world doing business…..The circle at the centre of the penny shows our continuing readiness to put at the centre of all our action, God Almighty who is depicted here by a circle – having neither beginning nor an ending.

THE ROPED POT: – The Roped Pot symbolizes the art of metal works among our people. It also represents the history and success of this ancient art.

Ugu leaves and blooming petals of sunflower..Symbolise our prosperity in agriculture and a hearty and cheerful people.

1) That is a Nigerian penny (see first picture below). It is a coin that was used in Nigeria during colonial times and just after independence. If you read the description beneath the coat of arms you will see that the penny is there to symbolise that many Anambra people are business people.

2) The two entangled triangles is known as a hexagram (it is a geometric shape, just like squares, triangles and rectangles) and it is used by many diverse groups, not just the Jews. For example, it has been used by the Indians/Hindus long before the Jews. The Jews call it the star of David and some Jews believe that it represents the astrological chart at the time of David's birth. Some Christian groups call it the "Star of Creation". Some Muslim groups also use hexagrams.

Hexagrams are also used in Free Masonry and in heraldry (that is, the art of making coats of arms).

A Jewish scholar, Professor Gershom Scholem, believes that the hexagram that is used in religion originated from the writings of Aristotle.

I believe that the hexagram on that coin has its origins in heraldry. If you look at the Nigerian flag that was used from 1914-1960, you will see a hexagram in it. Hexagrams were quite common in British and French heraldry and it was our British colonisers that designed that flag (see second picture below).

Why are the anthems of most (if not all) south West States written in indigenous language? Not that it's is bad, it only got me curious.
