There's nothing wrong with bride price except where the inlaws become greedy. In some cultures, it is as low as N10.

I am igbo from adazi nnukwu in Anaocha Local government area of Anambra state to be precised...
the list is very affordable that u can have a #250k traditional marriage with out party... there was a time it was so high that many people could not meet up with the requirements... the elders and other respectable men had to join heads together and see how to alleviate the burden called bride price cos they won't marry their daughters... it was reduced drastically and everybody is benefiting from. it (both poor and rich)
highest bidding bride price is 10k in my place... guess every village have got their own culture and I believe they have a reason for that and it should be respected... but it would be nice if people can look into this extortion called bride price...
it have left many people unmarried today and many guys leave their people(cos of the high bride price) and marr.y from other states while some do many dubious things to meet up with the said bride price...
I hope we all can learn to accept and tolerate everyone noting that all fingers are not equal....
my thoughts though..

Enlighten us...how hard is it answering some else's name for life...what stigma or psycoligical trauma is it putting u tru..u women like a make a fuss about everything...something that u clearly want for urself, u still find away of making it look like men are forcing it on u and u are only doing it as a favour just to please the man...

Even the sex we all enjoy togeda and both contribute our bodies is still seen as a huge favour by u ladies...I'm not always understanding u pple

I believe this is just a case where the system created by men, comes back to haunt them. My dad said, bride price payment is intended to show that a man is mature enough to cater for a wife and since she is leaving her family to go join his...he should appreciate them.

He even told me that, way back, some men used to brag with it. They say things like "I bought everything on the list down to salt".
Men were using it to intimidate each other. I am sure my fellow igbo people will be familiar with this. If they want it to go, they can.
