He should allow private sector to manage tinapa resort .the government has it hands on do many things.
The government should go into partnership with a private investor.the facilities are already on ground.what tinapa needs is proper management

True, Tinapa failed to live upto expectations

Tinapa had no chance. You cannot run a leisure & shopping zone without excellent transport links:air, road & rail at the very least. A seaport would be crucial in Tinapa case. And not without tax relief or special status. The idea was premature. With our lopsided Federal system, without FG approval, there are many things states cannot do easily. Then factor in ethno-religious politics.

Most of the money spent on Tinapa should have been invested in statewide infrastructure development first. Maybe just 20% of Tinapa cost used to improve Calabar City hospitality status.

Nigeria needs world class game reserve like sa and Kenya.

If calamari can develop that it will turn cr to dubai

That’s what tourists with dollars want

Although one won't totally blame Donald Duke for failing to foresee some of the problems being faced now by the Cross River state government, I believe a viable fast rail transport would open up Tinapa.

Modified: apologies for my earlier outburst i should have displayed more decorum. As you have stated a monirail was indeed designed and paid for by the government from the airport to tinapa and it was designed to hold cargo and pedestrians. The new government of Imoke built a confrence centre and instead linked it to tinapa using the same monirail thus the idea of conveying cargo to and from tinapa using the airport was killed at that point. Tinapas failure is a case of the dangers of lack of continuity in governance. Apologies again for my earlier outburst.

He can't manage it again

Where are our tourist centres? We don't need another yeye university that won't make top 100 list.
If he cannot manage it, is it a university that he will now be able to manage?

Never seen a governor so senseless and less focused. Of everything to do, it's to kill a world class landmark of Cross River state. No wonder Cross River state never had any other visionary leader after Donald Duke. Shame on Ayade!

Calabar has a university already, why not equip that to a good standard? They wont because it is a federal university. Kai!

that's a lame excuse. He should as well locate d said university to Lagos. When Donald duke was in office, people travelled from all over d country 2 visit obudu and participate in d calabar carnival. Y did they record high patronage despite not being in Lagos? Everything can't b in Lagos
Re: Ayade To Turn Tinapa Into University by saintkeppy(m): 8:38pm On Aug 26, 2018
Let me guess the possible name of the university cheesy

1. DONALD DUKE UNIVERSITY, CALABAR

2.TINAPA UNIVERSITY, CALABAR

3.PARADISE CITY UNIVERSITY, CALABAR

So unfortunate, things are not working the way it should in this country, Donald Duke tried his very best but seems his effort is wasted. I witnessed a young man(Duke) sworned-in as Gov'nor back in '99, who was determined with vision to develop his state with passion, thinks &acts different from an average Nigerian.

Too much monopoly of seaport activity in Lagos, can't we just have atleast 2 or 3 ever-busy seaport in the Coastal south-south region, where things can also arrive from abroad
I visited both Calabar&PH, very dull place to be called a seaport. SMH
Too much politics in every thing in this country.

They even have a State University, CRUTECH, which is more or less a glorified secondary school. Instead of investing on that one to make it worthwhile, he's talking of building a world class research university lol.. What a clown.

Gbam! These guys simply lack the touch and vision to make things happen. Tinapa among other things was to be the Hollywood of Nigeria. it had a studio that was supposed to produce movies. How come people visit Dubai for tourism.

what's d difference? D man is complaining of location as d reason y tinapa has failed. He says what makes tourism succeed is location. Tinapa is inside calabar. Obudu is 5hours away from calabar yet it attracted a steady stream of visitors and patronage(tourism) in d donald duke era despite its remote location. So is location now an issue 4 tinapa under ayade? If location was what determines success in tourism, then it's only Egyptians that will visit their pyramids

Y do something like dis always fail in the hands of our government, if it were to b a private interprise it must work out.
The solution I c there is either a intercity rail- system & a seaport that can revive Tinapa.

How would the number of visitors needed to sustain such a big project have been attracted? No rail, no proper roads or close air link?
Duke had 8 years in office. If you cannot complete such a project, do not start it. Because the next governor might consider it as a luxury project. It's not health, education or infrastructure. State governors have certain critical areas to focus on, considering limited funds. It would have created jobs of course, but still not critical sector as at then.

Duke could have conceptualized it on a smaller scale, completed it and got it going before leaving office. Continuity of elaborate non-essential projects is not guaranteed by successors.

That most of our leaders are not fit to be class monitors is no secret. That is why the better ones like Duke & Fashola must know to complete what they started.

The man who cancelled Lagos metro as head of state/dictator 35 years ago is ruling ago today in Abuja. Lagos has got bigger now, more congested and cost of projects much higher today. Lagos is struggling to make headway with light railway now. Since nearly 8 to 10 years.

Research university?cheesy...i laughcheesy. Does nigeria have the capability to reasearch anything? Look at the reseach institute in NAIFOR in benin.its completely dead. Place ads on CNN and other foreign networks so more ppl outside the country will know more of TINAPA. Or are u saying u dont have money to place ads on CNN? Tinapa has the capability to become nigeria's disney land.no go establish one white elephant project and dey call am university of research.
