This is science not magic or metaphysics. It is called CLOUD SEEDING.

The secret is in the smoke burning behind him. The leaf he burnt has SILVER IODIDE or POTASSIUM IODIDE as part of the chemical properties.

Silver iodide and potassium iodide induces nucleation and acts as a surface conducive for condensation to occur which then turns to precipitation.

I know this because I studied Meteorology and Geography in the university for 4 years. I did Cloud Physics. In addition, my kindred is known in Abia state for rain-making. The special leaf is an age-long secret.

BBC knows this. They are just mocking him.grin

Oga, I have a BSc in this field and I can tell you that it isn't cloud seeding.

1. Why can't they seed the cloud during dry season to create rain?

2. They say 'incantations' to cause rain -that one na physics?

3. Do you know how much dust and other particles you have to send to the atmosphere (all things being equal) to seed the cloud, to eventually lead to rain fall?

4. Do you know that rain may not form at the point in the atmosphere, where the water bearing air particles form cloud?

With these points, I accept a debate, if you think I am wrong.
You should be ashamed of yourself if you actually have BSc in this field and you believe the nonsense you just wrote.

I will answer all your questions just to teach other people reading:

1. Why can't they seed the cloud during dry season to create rain?

This is a stuupid question coming from someone who claims to have a degree in this field. There are many factors/conditions that must be met for precipitation to occur e.g. right atmospheric temperature, humidity, pressure, wind, cloud type etc. Usually, most of these conditions are prevalent in the rainy season and only need a nucleation surface for condensation to take place. This is where silver iodide, potassium iodide, table salt and other seeding compounds come into effect. This is not so in the dry season as most of these conditions are not there and there is even a wind reversal system in Nigeria during that time. The North-East trade winds bringing in dryness and dust from the Sahara desert.

2. They say 'incantations' to cause rain -that one na physics?

If a trained surgeon says incantations before performing a surgery, will you still believe he is successful because of the "incantations"? Those other things are called "amanse"(showmanship) in Igboland or rather still because the herbalist has no knowledge of the reason behind the rain. Ask him to just do incantation without burning the leaf.

3. Do you know how much dust and other particles you have to send to the atmosphere (all things being equal) to seed the cloud, to eventually lead to rain fall?

Hahaha, I laugh at your ignorance. He is not seeding for a city. He is inducing a micro-climate. Large scale (city and state) cloud seeding is still a subject of debate because of the possible greenhouse effects of the compounds on our environment. Go and read up son. https://www.headofsocials.com/2018/04/10/china-to-force-rain-snow-to-fall-over-an-area-twice-the-size-of-nigeria/

4. Do you know that rain may not form at the point in the atmosphere, where the water bearing air particles form cloud?

You are now asking off-point question. If you need me to teach you, come out directly and ask me to teach you Meteorology son.

Thanks to my GLO network, my reply was late.

First of all, you are insultive, rather than educating. I may be your elder, mostly likely.

Secondly, I never said I have a BSc in that field. I forgot to put the inverted commas to quote you having a Degree in Meteorology or Geography.

I agree that rain makers can make rain ONLY IN Rainy seasons (due to the conditions needed for it to work).

Thirdly, whether you accept it or not, these people say incantations. I was opportune to sit close to a "Rain maker" in one of my relative's event. I could hear him make incantations. He has in his "tools", stones, palm fronds, white substance (like a salt, probably potassium iodide) and so on.

Fourthly, on your response to point 3, I agree that he is seeding for a micro climate but is that AMOUNT of materials enough to do that?

On Point 4, it is technically not an off point question because, if you as a Meteorologist, does not know that a cloud can form on top of your house but with time, clear and move towards the direction of the prevailing wind and eventually falls elsewhere.

A man who wield such power but looking so haggard, exhausted and unkempt. This is the mentality of an average African patriot at whatever level of involvement or engagement, all they desire is power; be it political, spiritual, economical or professional, once this is achieved they are at lost as to what to do with the power, Africa is indeed the dark continent of proud warriors!

At the peak of dry season (after the December harmattan) you get 1 - 3 light rainfall in those cities which should also include Lagos (all of which are in Southern Nigeria which has more rainfall than North).

It's not a new thing, it's as old as tradition

In the whole Eastern state, if you have any ceremony be it burial, marriage or anything that will attract well wishers, you have to go and settle this kind of people

If you settle one the other will send rain to disrupt the occasion
So you must settle both of then if not one will send rain for the other

You need the right factor to cause rain, all of which are always present at the peak of the raining season. Cloud seeding also applies to snow. A man did it in New York in the 1940s, I learnt this from a documentary and then I checked online to get more of the facts.

Seriously, what BSc do you have? is it BSc in Igbo language, Hausa language or Yoruba language?

True to an extent but it is possible. It's called cloud dissipation/dispersal/decay. Julie's Berger uses it for major projects.
