If the necessary systems are in place + adequate precautionary methods in place......
This type requires no equipments but precautionary methods like you rightly mentioned.

- availability of potable water.
- clean environment.
- public awareness on communicable diseases.
- public health improvement.

londonrivals:
The Sokoto State Government, has confirmed nine deaths due to what an official suspected to be cases of gastroenteritis in seven Local Government Areas of the state.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Mr Mustapha Ali, on Friday in Sokoto, listed six of the affected LGAs as: Illela, Sabon-Birni, Gada, Goronyo, Isa and Tureta.

Most of the LGAs border Republic of Niger.

Ali stated that the situation is under control, as the state and federal government officials had been deployed to the affected areas while medications and other aids had also been made available.

He, however, debunked the claims that it was an outbreak of cholera, noting that experts had since taken samples for laboratory test in line with standard practice.

According to the PS, preliminary investigations reveal that the deaths may be due to the consumption of contaminated water, as rain is at its peak in the affected areas.

Ali said 80 patients were hospitalised in Tureta town and its suburbs, adding that all the deaths are those recorded within theprimary health care centres and hospitals.

Nonetheless, he insisted that it was irrational to attribute other deaths to the gastroenteritis, as routine deaths occurred daily naturally at different places.

Ali also confirmed the death of one person, which occurred at Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camp in Gandi village.

He cautioned people against unwholesome food and water consumption and urged hospital workers to be on the alert by living up to the expectation of their services.

What's next? Take away hunger and people will not eat bad food. Imagine someone who has not eaten for three days seeing any food. Call it unwholesome or any name. How will poor people survive in this kind of economy and the media is being shifted to favor the government.FOR REAL PEOPLE ARE NOT HAPPY!!! stop deceiving people with comments as if everything is ok with the masses.

I was hoping to see that in the closing paragraphs. I was not disappointed to not see it though.

Malams, aboki do not take their bath.

They watch face, hand, legs with plastic kettle while living in crowded shanties.

Some buy N10 naira (pure) satchet water to use to watch their face, hands and leg.

They cover their dirtiness with kaftan laced with Hausa Sosorobia perfumes.

Their men practice HOMOSEXUAL ACT because their society forbid men or boys from mingling freely with women and teenage girls.

It is hard to see an average northerner live in rented apartment. They so much believe in Free Housing.
Trust me you are nothing but a fool that is typing from a remote area in the southern part of Nigeria.
I'm from South but living in the North. Majority of northerners don't live in rented apartment because they don't live fake live(they live within their income) no matter how small it is they prefer to own their houses.
Take it or leave it they are far better than us in terms of everything.
When a hausa man is in position he can give his entire village people job but this can't be said of us that don't want anybody to compete with us(Northerners owns 75% of workforce in Nigeria civil service, deal with that)
Our Governors in the south receive more from Federal allocation compare to the states in the North, but the roads and schools in the south are eyesore, but come to the North, their roads are top notch, the school structures are wonderful (In roads, only Lagos state can compete with them, in terms of schools only Osun State can match them: Blame that on our selfish leaders from south.) From Abuja pick any road that leads you to North then I will tell you how smooth and motorable they are. But what about our roads from Kogi down there it is terrible, a friend of mine spent 72hrs along Lokoja - Okene road because of how deplorable the road is.
We always speak bad of these people as is they don't know anything, but you know what? We happen to be the one that are still learning.
If you will to debate on this, I'm waiting bring it on, i will defend everything I'm saying with proofs.

@slap1 and abumeinben, gastroenteritis is a bacterial infection that can be caused by a wide range of enteric bacteria, but commonly Escherischa coli, Salmonella typhi and a number of Shigella species. Some viruses can also cause GE, but since the outbreak was due to contaminated water, I strongly suspect that it is a case of faecal pollution of E. coli.

It affects the digestive system and cause chronic diarrhoea, abdominal pain, weakness etc. It isn't a Nigerian disease, it occurs everywhere in the world, but Africa and Asia are particularly affected by outbreaks due to general poor hygiene, climatic conditions and bad healthcare system.
