However, less than twenty-four hours later the military denied the report.

REPORTS emerged yesterday that at least 30 soldiers were killed during a battle with suspected Boko Haram terrorists in Borno State.

The report carried by an international news agency, Agence France Presse, AFP, has been countered by the Theatre Command of Operation Lafiya Dole.

The report had claimed that troops deployed in Zari town, Guzamali Local Government Area of the state, came under attack on Thursday, leading to the ugly development.

Reacting to the report in a telephone interview, spokesman for Theatre Command, Operation Lafiya Dole, Colonel Onyema Nwachukwu, while confirming the attack, denied that the Army suffered casualties.

According Colonel Nwachukwu, contrary to the report, several of the terrorists were killed by the military troops just as he said the terrorists’ equipment were captured.

Hear him: “That information is not correct. It’s true that we had an encounter with Boko Haram at a location called Zari. The Boko Haram came to attack that community, and our troops deployed few kilometres away from the location, countered the attack.

“The ground troops were supported by the Air Task Force, and several Boko Haram Terrorists were killed, and we also destroyed many of their equipment, weapons.

"On our side, I’m yet to receive casualty figure on my desk, if there was any. So, I cannot confirm that we had (any) and I think it’s very untrue for anyone to (say we had that casualty figure).”

Oga, your attempt to turn this into a political PDP vs APC matter can be smelt from miles away. Since I was born, both the Nigerian military, police, government spokespersons etc have always lied about official casualty figures. It's a know fact that if the police (or whoever in government) tells you there were XX number of casualties, the typical thing is to multiply that number by a suitable factor to arrive at the true figure of casualties. Your attempt to turn it to an APC thing is duly noted.

Your brain is obviously the one spewing garbage here; you should go and seek help. The person I quoted acknowledged that the Nigerian military has always been known to lie over casualty figures, but he then went ahead to paint it an APC/Buhari thing. I simply highlighted the ill logic in his conclusion reminding him that this has got nothing to do with the political party as it is an ugly trend which predates the current guys.

So for you to have problems with this my comment, it obviously confirms my first sentence above that you need mental help.

...this is the military and they are fond of that even during GEJ regime they always denied that local governments were controlled by Boko Haram and also denying casualty figure... I was actually expecting the NA to deny the attack itself, so am somewhat dissapointed that they did acknowledge it (attack). But i know i can never be disappointed when it comes to them (NA) denying any form of casualty suffered on their part, not even in its minute form. They're just as lifeless as their arrowhead.

The news is totally wrong. I'm a NAF personnel deployed in support outside FOB to provide reinforcement in ZARI. Look at the multiple line of defence from the base. It was penetrated by bokoharam's ammunition but the ATF scrambled 5 aircrafts which includes two ISR platform to provide close air support.

My unit enroute was also attacked by bokoharam but mrls was launched on their position. Our movement here was supported by 707 SF brigade and Naval elements.

The meaning of Commander-In-Chief is the the one who oversees all the Armed Forces and it is Buhari who was elected under APC.
It is the army that he commands that is in denial. It does have everything to do with him.
