Avraham:Modric will win. It's always easier when the star of the world cup wins the trophy. But when there's no stand out player in the winning team, the best player or any other player wins it. Griezman, Mbappe and Varane, None really stood out from the rest, the trio were almost equally exceptional. That's where the problem is. Paving the way for Modric who won silver medal, won the golden ball and won the champions league. |

ClintonNzedimma:you are right, salah won only the premier league golden boot, and was knocked out in the Champions League Final, I don't see a reason why they will pick him ahead of Messi who won the European golden boot, the Spanish golden boot, the La Liga, Spanish Copa Del Rey, reached the round of sixteen in the world cup, the same competition M. I think the reason Messi was left out in the final 3 for both the European Best player and Ballon D'or is because this year in question had the world cup (the biggest footballing event in the world) and the UEFA Champions league (the biggest in europe and the most followed) and he didn't win either of the. If it was based purely on individual prowess and irrespective of the competition, then he would have won it easily after winning the La Liga and Copa Del rey. I think these award bodies should always make their criteria known in order to avoid confusion. I see Modric winning the Ballon Dor anyways. Even if he wasn't gonna win it initially, i think beating Ronaldo to the European best player award will have an influence and i also don't expect Ronaldo to show up for this award either. 2 Likes |

Domestic league football means next to nothing nowadays. Modric wins this one 100% But the ballon dor would be a tad more complicated. Nobody has it locked down. What transpires between now and november will have a big bearing on the ballon dor. |
