Enugu does not deserve more than an airstrip. I haven't seen the justification for an airport.

My problem with Nigeria government is that they promise alot but fulfill none. Why promise when you will not implement it.

like if you agree with my postulation
move on if you don't.

Christmas is round the corner, they have announced cancellation of flights to Enugu again this year, just like last year.

This never happened under GEJ.
do you listen to news on issues relating to your region at all or you are restricted to nairaland only? few days ago I saw your elders complaining bitterly on TV and unlike GEJ your hero, this administration has taken it upon itself to respond swiftly and you are here saying trash. what do you people actually want?

This Govt has indeed touched all states in a positive way.

Okay, since the structures to be demolished are outside the airport such as markets etc, why are they shutting down the airport?

Also, if you are demolishing structures that are two miles away from the airport, but will not demolish other structures and classrooms built almost next to the runway by airforce, would that not be silly?

Buhari is having a nightmare that the AIIA, Enugu has continued to grow despite his wicked neglect. Thus, he wants to close it down indefinitely for good using one silly demolition excuse or another.

Everyone knows Buhari's evil intentions. If he really wants to improve the airport, let Buhari concession the airport to private consortium that will develop it sincerely like a business.

This is the ONLY international airport in Nigeria without a completed taxiway. Buhari stopped it in 2015 and everybody has since forgotten about the abandoned airport's taxiway which Buhari never restarted. Now the excuse to close it are masts and markets that are miles away from the airport. Meanwhile the airforce classroom buildings in the picture below which is illegally situated right on the edge of the runway are not even discussed at all.

What could possibly have lead the Nigerian airforce to cite a structure like that in an airport that close to the runway, was somebody thinking through his/her anus?

My brother, it's IMPUNITY!

The armed forces members in Nigeria do as they like.

Besides, there may also be other hidden agenda to ruin that airport by building permanent structures so dangerously close to the runway, Afterall, in Kano, Kaduna,Lagos,Abuja where Nigeria airforce operate even bigger airbases, they didn't built any makeshift structures on the runway of those airports.

The surprising part is that despite the cry for them to remove it, FAAN has not deemed it necessary to remove the hazard. But they are crying about markets that are 2 miles away from the airport and a radio mast that is 6 miles away!

You think I write out of imagination. What is in Enugu that an airstrip cannot serve. Warri, an oil city is served well by Osubi airstrip. Onitsha strategically deserves an airport more than Enugu.
Warri that looks like a ghetto. With all your oil money in Warri one would expect to see another Dubai in Warri..Oil city indeed. Airports are not built in ghettos.

Same Buhari that is so much hate by the south Eastern region, is the same President that has provided more infrastructure development to that region, than any other Democratically elected President.

I wish I could like this a thousand times! That airport in enugu is a white elephant project. That is why it has been unable to turn a profit since it was established. The FG keeps pumping money there and yet, there is nothing to show for it! Enugu is basically a civil servant state with little or no commercial activity taking place to deserve an airport.

He said, “We came here by air and we landed except for the landing quality, there is a lot that can be done to improve on the riding quality of the runway and it is because of those failures that you see in some areas. Plans are on the way to carry out similar works that took place in Abuja runway to ensure longer life, better riding quality for the runway. We have some international flights coming to Enugu, some are three times a week.

capital lies, another marginalization from the govt of buhari to the south easterners, this was the same thing they told us last year towards ember month now another ember month is around the corner they are now looking for a way to shutdown the airport again during this period of ember month what a wicked government. what happened to the commencement of work since Febuary of this year?

Enugu is dear to Ndigbo and well meaning Eastern regioners just as Kaduna is to every Northerner. Godswill Akpabio, former governor of Akwa Ibom state reminded Nigerians last month that Enugu remains the defacto capital city of SE and SS.

Statistically, Enugu or even Owerri airport records more domestic passenger traffic than Kano airport. On the international operations, Ethiopian airlines has been plying the route since 5 years making good profit.
Onitsha is not complaining about airport cos Enugu airport is there for them.

What Onitsha needs is a functional maritime port so that the traders can direct their consignments to the city as port of final destination.

Thus, what is in Enugu that Warri don't have is the political importance, urbanization, population and passenger traffic,
I cant be more satisfied by your apt analysis.. You wrote off my heart..Kudos bro. The ignoramus needs to learn.
