Islamic New Year: Kano state declares Tuesday sept, 11 public holiday.
Ahead of the Islamic New Year the Kano state government has declared Tuesday sept.11 as a public holiday to mark the new Islamic year 1440 after hijra.

This was issued in a statement signed by the state commissioner for information Malam Muhammad Garba.
According to the statement, Abdullahi Ganduje the governor of Kano state was congratulating the Muslim faithful for witnessing the Muslim New Year which commences in the first month in the lunar Islamic calendar.

In the statement he assures his people that the government is determined to work hard towards improving their lives. He urged Muslims to use this period to reflect on their activities and deeds and as well pray for the peace and prosperity of the country.
