Thanks guys my friends dog had a swollen virgina we thought it was a sign of heat but it did not agree to mate with any dog so he is sad that d dog has gone through her first heat cos he promised his uncle a pup soon

Swollen vulva is the first sign of dog in heat. Few days after this, you will notice bloody discharge. SO yeah, your dog is experiencing early stage of heat cycle.

But she never had any discharge and was not ready to mate cry

You obviously missed the heat if so. Sometimes most dogs don't bleed excessively and some clean it up so you will hardly notice.
Like my 11 Month Boerboel is currently on heat but one will hardly notice unless you look closer. Seems she either clean it up, or the flow is not heavy.

It's the breed of your dog that would determine that. Besides how old is your dog?

mostly YES but dogs experience silent heat too

a dog will not be receptive throughout the cycle, it will be receptive usually around the 9th to 14th day.

Donno much about greyhound but I guess their heat comes up in a space of 5months due to their function(sporting) might be more/less since yours is a mix. But I don't support mating mixed breeds sha

This can be difficult to say..... just monitor the dog very well is all you can do
