Bonjour à tous!

Please does anyone know how many minutes of préparation is given before one commences the Expressions Orale?

Unfortunately, I can't remember exactly, but you will be given a short text to read and think over and then you say something logical and relevant about it in French. It's usually simple when you are reasonably well prepared (in my case it was a text about a missing dog and I was asked to put myself in the owner's shoes and say something about it - so I talked about how it felt losing my dog, notifying neighbours to look out for it, going out to search for it, etc.).

Basically, the examiners are usually patient with you because they know that oral expression is naturally the weakest point of any non-immersed learner's repertoire, so it doesn't really matter if you stumble and search for the right words, just make sure you use the words/register you do find competently. Feel free to speak slowly - remember that its a test of working knowledge, i.e. ability to communicate in a foreign land without constantly asking for someone who speaks English, and not fluency.

The important thing is to get your message across in French and make yourself understood. Once you calm down and take your time you'll scale through.

Best of luck.

Is this TEF or DELF/DALF? The format I've seen for TEF is quite different. For Section A, an ad is presented, and you're asked to ask around ten questions to get more information (with your examiner playing the role of your interlocutor). Section B, another ad is given to you, and you are supposed to present it to your friend (played by your examiner) and convince him to do or take part in whatever is presented.

If this is TEF, when did you take the test please?

don't tell me I've been studying the wrong thing since o

Hi Mamaroon,

Was it the TEF that you took? If yes, do you still remember the questions you were asked for the expression orale?

Lol. Fear not, this is TEF. I'm not confusing it with DALF because I took it 2 years ago, but took DALF in 2004 and have fully forgotten all about that exam's structure. Its basically what I said - you are given short texts to read and say something relevant about. I don't remember whether or not the texts were adverts, but that makes no difference anyway, text is text.

Of course the examiner asks you questions, that is a given in any oral exam.

Yes it was TEF...

there are 2 questions. One scenario was that I'm going on a ski holiday and I need to convince a friend to go with me. the examiner will pose as the friend and ask plenty questions or keep giving reasons why he can't go.

the second was that I'm organising a party on a multimedia bus...call the business that rents the bus and ask questions.

pls try to understand the exam structure and practice. just like for IELTS concentration is key for listening.

difficulty depends on your previous exposure to French.

I suspect the local guys are lenient on the speaking.

I think attending alliance francais will help with writing...

Bonne chance!

Maximum 54 points actually
Under Core points, there's maximum 24 points for 2nd language test and under Additional points, there's another maximum 30 points for French/Bilingualism.
Mamaroon:

mehn!!...i need those 30 points o by God's grace...will redo the last one for the year...I'm planning to school myself with google and you tube and TV5 on dstv channel 437...other family duties will not permit me to go for lessons.

....adult education "tings"

Bonne chance!

True...i stand corrected... max 54 points if one scores CLB 9 or 10.

The struggle for those 30 points is real o...your french must be good though if you got these scores without studying. I've been studying for almost 6 months...still not confident enough...quand même, je vais le passer. I'm also waiting for their last session for the year.

Happy studying!

I didn't study and I wasn't surprised by my poor score in writing CLB4/B1. reading and speaking...i actually got CLB7 and CLB8 /high B2 and low C1....which surprised me... suspect the local guys are lenient on the speaking - because I know my grammatical errors can "wound" an innocent passer-by tongue....my listening was CLB6/low B2...

I did 2 French courses (optional) in Uni many years ago so i learnt a bit more than JSS or SS level. I think attending alliance francais will help with writing....but for me....i need those 30 points o by God's grace...will redo the last one for the year...I'm planning to school myself with google and you tube and TV5 on dstv channel 437...other family duties will not permit me to go for lessons.

God speed mon ami(e)...pls look through the exam structure materials.

There was a guy in the last exam that thought TEF listening was like IELTS listening.... he wasn't shading the answers as he went along and wanted to start shading when they said "pens up"....no time after the tape finishes to input your answers unlike the English test!

Also no headphones. Also some conversations/announcements are played once. Some 2x but the second time round a different question is being asked. So you may hear a convo...1st question is who is speaking....you hear it again...2nd question is who was she talking to.

There is no excuse for this form of carelessness. The instructions are clearly written on the question papers/answer booklets, as is the norm with all examinations.

Your A2 level is enough if you study and practise the test format vigorously. Study the TEF books front and back and if you have the money, subscribe to the prepmyfuture app as recommended by @mariah203. Also check out the Enseignement du FLE channel on YouTube, they have some TEF practice tests avec corrigés.

If you ask me, my own level is A1 sef, but the TEF tests I've practised, my scores are slightly above average, still working to improve it sha. It's the expression ecrite and orale that I can't accurately assess now.

Bonne chance! Tout ira bien!

There is one in Nov but think it's full in AF Lagos. It seems TEF is getting popular...pls register for the next year as soon as you can...they have limited slots.

Better chance registering in AF PH or elsewhere. October is full booked. Nov was remaining 3 slots 3 weeks ago. I hear December is filling up quite fast.
