You cant compare these movies to real horror movies such as The omen, the exorcist or the evil dead

Lemme try as much as I can to be very clear;

Let's start with an analogue: There is a huge hostel called Horror. In that hostel, there are several rooms - this rooms are called sub-genres.

Now applying the logic of this analogue: straight from the box, Get Out belongs to the HORROR genre, but if we are to go into specifics, it's falls within the "psychological horror" sub-genre. The psychological sub-genre is what differentiates it from an another horror like The Exorcist, which belongs to "possessed" sub-genre. Get it?

Bottom line, Get Out is an horror (first and foremost), before being psychological, just like The Exorcist being horror first, before falling under "possessed" sub-genre. I don't see how I contradicted myself in any way, bud.


In the issue of Upgrade, it's a more complex situation, mainly because the sub-genre and the genre doesn't match. The film belongs to the SCIENCE FICTION genre, but draws his sub-genre from another genre's sub.

Now, a sub-genre is secondary, that's why it's called a sub.  A genre is primary, and as such, principally defines the motif of any literally/art work. In other words, a movie or literature is marketed using it's genre as a selling point, not the sub-genre.

Don't know if you will understand this, but that's what I said earlier without going into specifics, and I didn't need a wikipedia page to back me up either.

Spectral- Very intense movie. There are elements of the movie that are very unrealistic, like one of the protagonists building several decondensers in a very short time. It's crazy

I said Upgrade is a sci-fi first before you can classify it as a horror, cuz body-horror is a sub-genre and shouldn't take precedence for the fact that it's secondary to the principal that is sci-fi (being a genre).

If you dont know, there has been a lot of debate stating that Get out isnt a horror movie thats why it was nominated under the musical/comedy awards in Golden globe. Thats also why the director had to come out to say that it is a documentary, then finally he concluded that the movie Get out doesnt fall into any genre.

Get out is more of a comedy/romance before anything hence it is not a full Horror movie like what i previously said.
