Hi, I'm afraid the answer to the first is beyond my ken. To the second, if you plan to fly in Canada, then it is advised to school in Canada. A lot of Canadian companies have this requirement/prejudice called "Canadian experience."

I did a quick search. You can check this: https://www.monster.ca/career-advice/article/become-a-pilot

Also, a simple search of pilot/flights schools in Canada through google will provide you with options.

Goodluck.

Hi beautiful people of nairaland, been a silent reader and I come here for information and motivation. Applied for a business visa late July and was successful (got the visa in less than a month). This is making me one week in Canada, came in via KLM with their stopover in Amsterdam. Currently in Calgary as that's where the company we are doing business is located. Winter is already here mehn, had a snow storm yesterday and roads are icy and it was not funny but we still had to come to the office. Life's generally peaceful and quite maybe because we are in Airdrie which is an industrial area, all I see are whites, no blacks at all maybe if I go to downtown Calgary I may see my brothers & Sisters. I'll really like to connect with anybody who's here so please send a pm or something. Kudos guys.

Hello All,

Please has any chartered accountant - ACA here successfully converted to CPA after immigrating to Canada. Did you have to take all the exams afresh or are there other pathways to CPA you used?

Also, with the unification of all accounting bodies into CPA designation, how does this impact the opportunities from acquiring other accounting certification like CMA? Infact, from research, provincial CMA bodies have stopped admitting new members in Canada.

Kindly provide some guidance based on your experience and knowledge.

Thank you so much in advance...

Hello people, need your advice.

Is it advisable to go to Driving school when I am planning to land in Canada by end of November by God's grace? Because I don't see the possibility of getting a Driver's license before leaving Nigeria.

Kindly tell me the pros and cons of taking a month driving lesson in Nigeria. Don't want to waste my shikini money that I can invest on winter jackets

Depends on a few factors like which region you are going to and if you have a prior driving experience plus license.

The first point is always to register and take a computer based test on road signs and rules. If you pass this stage you do a vision test and obtain a learners license. You can drive with this license only when accompanied by an experienced driver and you’re restricted to some hours of the day for driving. After about 9 months, you can book for a road test and if successful, you get issued an intermediate license. You may skip the learner process if you have a prior license from home for at least two years or more.

There are definitely lots of blacks working and living in Airdrie. A Nigerian even owns a Pharmacy store, and Propak Inc. A major employer in Airdrie employs a lot of immigrants. There are Nigerians working there as well.
Driving to Airdrie from Calgary during winter is not fun though.

Don't bother. Save the money and attend a driving school in Canada when you are ready for a road test.

Didn't know this kind of thread exists and I'm happy I saw it at the right time.

I just concluded my first degree last month and personally I feel like leaving the country already grin man no wn do service sef.. I no need am grin grin

Jokes apart, I told my bro about leaving the country, he wasn't against it and advised I go to Canada (i was thinking of Sweden or Normay thk grin). He said it's even better I use the link of going for masters in Canada to leave the country and personally, I'm not a fan of masters.. I'm not even planning to further any education but he was adamant that is a better option. He said things will be a little bit easier for me considering I will be studying there. Said the family will just look for money for rent, food and part payment of my school fees and he's projecting like 5m will solve it

So house, I don't have any idea about Canada and I'm very sure God willing, I will leave Nigeria after my service. I just need someone to tell me things I need to know about Canada, is the Masters link very sure? What's the goodies that come with masters students? Like how much should I budgeting?

Thanks

If you don’t want to do a Masters, then don’t do it. You can qualify for EE with your BSc. Don’t throw money into something you are not keen on doing. Skills acquisition is more better than going for a Masters. Many Canadians don’t do Masters - additional expense. Also, after finishing your Masters and the struggles involved, you still earn what a BSc holder or even less earns.

Thank you for this better to live in a slightly 'expensive' but warm apartment, than a cheap but unbearably cold basement.

I hear some basements get really cold during winter.

Please let them know - The cold here can kill somebody oh. Better spend money on a good accommodation. Don’t compromise because you would stick with that situation for 1 year.

Go to the website and check if you qualify with the basic criteria. Google EE canada and do the assessment.

Go for the driving, even a week training would make driving in Canada easier for you, and if possible you can get an international driver license from naija.

I'm currently working in Propak's office, their Engineering and Sales Division, know its a big company but right now it's just us who are the only blacks in the building. If you say so, then I'll have to go find where my brothers and SISTERS wink are because over the weekend I went to CrossIron Mills shopping mall and same thing as well, saw only like 3 blacks and they kept avoiding glances lol. Please directions would be nice Sir. Thanks.

This is similar to a pyramid scheme and cuts across several products e.g furnace, filters, life insurance e.t.c. Ali and Selina are somewhere on the pyramid too or working for someone higher up the pyramid. Some would even call to book an appointment (this ensures they get around the door to door sale ban in some provinces). Once you let them in, the sales pitch begin and na OYO be the case when one falls for it. They often buy people's contact via a genuine company you have business with, and would lie that they are partners with that genuine coy, or where sent by them to make their sales pitch easy. All na hustle. They have to survive.

You assume having black friends will be positivity to your life in Canada.

I left Propak in 2014. They have like 5 buildings and mod yards scattered all around Airdrie. Good company to work for, but when the economy is weak, they are quick to let people go. You would often bump into the president of the company once in a while. It's family owned and used to be the largest employer of labour in Airdrie. Probably still the largest in Airdrie. There maybe other Nigerians or blacks scattered around as well. Lots of TFW welders at Propak in those days because there were not just enough local welders. If meeting your fellow naijas is priority, just join the Nigeria Calgary association on facebook or find redeemed churches around calgary, if you are a Christian. You would be so overwhelmed that na you go dey run from naija after some time grin
