Because Nigerians are such vain, empty creatures whose ideas of life-fullfilment is to be able to oppress/impress their neighbours and family with material things.

That's why politicians spend all their time in office stealing so much money they cannot even spend if they live for the next 200 years, just to arouse the envy and jealousy of other people. And the entire country looks like a horror-movie because the resources meant for development have been siphoned and squirreled away by the vainglorious few who got access to government posts first.
