Many soldiers were killed and dozens of others sustained gun wounds when Boko Haram insurgents invaded their base at Matele Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State Sunday evening.

The incident occurred at remote village of Metele in the fringes of Lake Chad Basin at about 5:00pm.

A security source said the insurgents overpowered the military and carted away their weapons.

“They opened fire and forcefully gained access to the military base, we lost some soldier who stood to protect and some are yet to return. From what I got, they were outnumbered and overpowered.

“It was a sad day for us at the Theatre, the terrorists took the advantage of the bad terrain and attacked us, it was really bad on the side of the troops.” said security source.

An official who did not want his name mentioned, also confirmed the attack, saying “We got the reports that Boko haram terrorists attacked Matele village in Kukawa LGA on Sunday, the attack lasted for hours before they eventually penetrated the military base and now, the rest is the story.

“Our concern is they are becoming stronger and more deadly almost on a weekly basis, the military needs to rise above this, more manpower and intelligence gathering is needed to be deployed,” the official said.

It was also gathered that last Friday, insurgents attacked Kekeno village in Kukawa Local Government Area and killed many people.

Meanwhile, the Chief of Army Staff, Lt General Tukur Buratai, represented by the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, Major General Abba Dikko, yesterday commissioned newly reconstructed road after it was named Heroes Drive” dedicated to slain and wounded officers fighting at the Theatre of Operation.

RIP to the dead, and may your blood be upon Mohomodu Buhary, APC & anyone who still wish the ‘Super Clueless’ terrorist to continue beyond May 2019.

Instead of Buhary and APC looting $1 Billion they should have given the money to Boko Haram to stop killing our soldiers. Painful!

Boko Haram began their violence during the time of Yaradua and GEJ, and they blossomed and became ever more violent during GEJ, while theyve been substantially contained during PMB.

Before PMB BH was virtually overrunning Nigeria, even in the South there was fear of them.

Now they're largely contained in Borno.

So i think GEJ is largely to blame.

A rag tag militant group over ran a base and the security source is quoting bad terrain and one of the factors that led to their defeat. Were they expecting to fight in the streets of Enugu with the lights onn before

Special Forces were deployed to quell religious extremist in Kaduna, I think they should be drafted back to Sambisa in order to get used to the terrain.

If Army begin fear terrain wetin civilians go do na?

This is becoming routine. Boko Haram invades a military base armed with AK47 rifles and codeine syrup, some Nigerian soldiers stand their ground and get killed but the vast majority are runners. They gather together for the next attack before they make another run for it. This is not the Nigerian Army we knew growing up. The army stands and fight.

What happened to our air assets in an attack lasting several hours? What reinforcement capabilities do they have when these soldiers are sent off to far flung remote areas? Buhari / Buratai solution to Boko Haram just isnt working

This must stop

Military installations have outposts to prevent routing like this

Eyes in the sky provides backup to ground troops with air power

Do we lack strategy or funds or is someone just selling these soldiers out?

There may indeed be a kernel truth to those persistent rumors suggesting that rogue elements high in the ranks of Saudi Arabia's government are in fact the sponsors of the Boko Haram terror group, whose mandate is to Islamize the entire African continent by force of arms, from the Sahara Desert to the Atlantic seaboard.

If the current head honcho in Saudi Arabia is capable of ordering last month's gruesome strangulation death of dissident journalist Khassoggi within the Saudi embassy in Turkey, then it stands to reason that the same Saudi leader, or lower ranking officials operating at his behest, are in fact the shadowy financiers of Islamic terror groups operating all over the globe, encompassing Kenya, Sudan, Somalia, Nigeria and South East Asia.

The Nigerian Military & Airforce officers are so fuvcking incompetent to the extent it makes one wonder how they even got promoted to a commanding position. I guess this is the effect of Godfatherism, choosing useless & less qualified officers as opposed to qualified & those willing to do the job.

Even some 1 like me,

Knows boko Haram will definitely attack isolated military bases & outposts.

Knows that since am so far away from HQ, as the base commander I need to constantly make sure to send scouts & patrol on all directions just in case.

set bombs on military equipment that can't be quickly moved just Incase u get overpowered.

The Airforce should also have arrived to provide air support during an attack that lasted "several hours" even reinforcement from nearby base should have arrived.

Anyways, R.I.P

How can you call in air support when the army now makes use of mobile phones. When there is no network coverage in that particular area then there is no means of communication.

One thing I noticed about our military is they lack communication gadget like satalite phones and radios.

Our police no even get radios. Very pathetic
