When the righteous rules, the wicked and looters will be in trouble and groaning. That is good for justice. Let all the executive and honorable criminals and looters also be punished adequately for their crimes and not only the mass, this will check all the corrupt leaders and judges also.
Who says Buhari is not working, this is justice and is good for Nigeria where corruption is endemic.

This shows that Nigeria as a supposed country is nothing but a jungle. Someone committed a crime that was supposed to attract death penalty or live imprisonment. They are asking him to just pay #120,000 out of the 31million. Why will he not commit another fraud of 100billion and pay 1million to get freed. Meanwhile, someone that stole goat, chicken, maggi, etc. Are being mobbed or sentenced to life imprisonment. I am still in doubt if the same God that created the western world is the same God that created Nigerians.

is he going to refund the 31million or that is severance allowance? ole, barawo.

Zamfara State High Court sitting in Gusau, has sentenced a serving member of the State’s House of Assembly, Lawali Attahiru Dogonkade, to four years imprisonment over an alleged N31 million fraud.

Dogonkade who was arraigned today by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) on a four-count charge bordering on conferring corrupt advantage on himself admitted guilt before Justice Bello Shinkafi, thereby leading to his immediate conviction by the court.

The convict, representing Kauran-Namoda Local Government in the Zamfara State House of Assembly, was accused of using his position to confer corrupt advantage upon himself in a N31, 290, 000 contract meant for the supply of medical equipment to the State Government in violation of Sections 10, 12 and 19 of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act, 2000.

Counsel to ICPC, Mashkur Salisu, in one of the counts told the court that the convict received N4.5 million from the Managing Director of Madaci Pharmacy, Mr. Hamisu Saminu Jibril, as percentage for the supply of medical equipment contract awarded by the state government.

His counsel, Mr. Abubakar Junaidu, had earlier argued on the propriety of the charge before the court saying that the accused had been charged one time before the Federal High Court in Gusau by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). But the trial judge overruled his argument and shortly after, the convict entered into a guilty plea.

Junaidu then pleaded with the court to be lenient with his client considering the fact that he was a first time offender with a large family and dependents who solely rely on him for their livelihood.

Following his guilty plea, the Counsel to the Commission invited the court to convict him in line with the provisions of 274 (2) of Administration of Criminal Justice Act 2015.

The court thereupon convicted the accused person as charged and sentenced him to four years imprisonment or payment of fine of N30, 000 on each of the counts totaling N120, 000.

useless judges are one of Nigeria biggest problem. 120k fine for stealing #31m? if it was someone that stole #50 bread now, they will send him to 10yrs without option of fine

What is the point of a fine that is 500% less than the amount stolen I see the judge colluded with the accused to gain cheap recognition? By the way, we are waiting for sharia judgement to, since they have Sharia law in place. We at least need is hands cut off.

So after paying the fine, will he return the money he has stolen?

You see how our judges aiding corruption systematically because an accused person embezzled 35 million naira and after final verdict of 4 year imprisonment, the jury still has the heart to give option of paying just 120, 000 naira for the heartless politician to be free.

Nigerian judiciary is disgrace, and it's still injustice against the populace.... Purchasing of justice is crime against humanity.

It’s a Statutory punishment. It can only be that. You will be surprised some serious crimes in Nigeria only carry 200 Naira fines.

The problem is that some of those laws were made when Naira was very valuable - and no one has thought to revisit the punishments! Shame on the legislature.

What is going on in this country? I suspect we need a vigilante group that will mete out the proper measure of punishment for crimes against the Nigerian public, especially when the courts keep rewarding crime.
