Snapdragon 8150 is the successor to the Snapdragon 845 chipset seen in many of the flagships released in 2018. That means that the SD 8150 will be Qualcomm’s flagship chipset for most of 2019.

For non-technical people, think of the processor/chipset in a smartphone as you will the engine in an automobile. The processor is the powerhouse of any computing device, including your PC, laptop and smartphone. The more powerful the chip, the more powerful the device, all other things being equal.

The Snapdragon 8150 (SD 8150) Chipset
The Snapdragon 8150 chipset will have 8 cores, i.e. Octa-core, structured as follows:

a cluster of 4 low-power Kryo Silver cores, running at about a maximum frequency of 1.8GHz,
a second cluster of 3 medium-power Kryo Gold cores, running at a maximum frequency of 2.4GHz,
a single top-tier Kryo Gold core with a maximum frequency of 2.8Ghz.
Adreno 640 is the bundled GPU.

There are some other technical details, but most consumers will find them as easy to understand as Klingon. Do you understand Klingon? Can you speak it? I didn’t think so. The important thing to note is that if you want the most smartphones in 2019, look for those that have the SD8150 chipset inside.

When will we see Snapdragon 8150-powered smartphones?
Most likely, 2019. The chances of seeing the SD 8150 chipset in a 2018 phone are next to zero, as December 4, 2018 is the launch date.

You are right, huawei has done everything right to make SD 845 obsolete but they use weak GPU which will give SD 8150 the upper hands in future battle.

If the rumors are right, Mediatek that used to be at the bottom of the ladder, will kick kirin 980 down the ladder with mediatek p90 due to the GPU issue.

I bet this chipset is certainly for the flagships and premium smartphones.

kirin 980 looks lik a rushed project just in the name to release early. it has great cpu speed thanks to 7nm but in graphics it is not as good as adreno 630 of last gen.watch Gary explain speed test g (mate 20 vs pixel 3xl) it was ahead in cpu test but while in gpu test its slowed down and google pixel 3xl over took it and finished first.
