Open your eyes and look at that gif well, Neymar had already cut back before VVD touched the ball, it wasn't VVD's tackle that stopped the ball. His right leg went after the ball and missed it, leaving in between his legs open for the ball to pass through. His left leg was already in motion, and the only action that leg could perform was to clear him.

If VVD had not cleared him, Neymar would have gotten that ball and would have created highlight of the week by sending VVD to Mars.
