TOPIC: EFFECTS OF BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION

We give thanks to Allah (SWT), we ask Him the most high to continue to shower His mercy upon the leader of humanity, Prophet Muhammad (SAW). His house hold, His companions and those who follow his guidance until the day of Qiyaamah.
To proceed; My Dear respected brothers and sisters in Islam; Today’s khutbah will discuss the topic: Effects of Bribery and corruption in Islamic perspective.
Bribery simply means giving something to someone through whom a person takes in return some benefits which he / she has no right to; while corruption can be seen as a dishonest behavior of an office holder seeking illegitimate personal gain. It includes giving or accepting bribes or inappropriate gifts, laundering money, double-dealing, diverting funds, under-the-table transactions and so on. For example: bribing a judge to get verdict in favour (wrongfully), or bribing an official to give him preference over others or to get other favours like allocation of a contract etc.
VERSES AND AHADITH ON BRIBERY AND CORRUPTION

Do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly: Allah [SWT] says: “ And do not consume one another’s wealth unjustly or sent it[in bribery] to the rulers in order that [they might aid] you [to] consume a portion of wealth of the people in sin, while you know [it is unlawful]. Q2:189
In this verse bribery and corruption are clearly prohibited by Allah [SWT]. Allah prohibits us from eating property of others sinfully. Likewise giving bribe to the rulers. And when bribery comes take part in, eating another’s right is bound to come into effect.

In another verse Allah [SWT] says: “ [ they are] keen listeners to falsehood, devourers of [what is] unlawful. So if they come to you, [O Muhammad], judge between them or turn away from them.. And if you turn away from them – never will they herm you at all….”Q5:43
Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) cursed the one who give or received bribes: Abdullah bin Amr (RA) narrated that: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) cursed the one who bribes and the one who takes bribe.”m ( At-Tirmidhi). In another narration, Abu Hurairah (RA) narrated: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) cursed the one who bribes and the one who takes a bribe for judgment. ( At-Tirmidhi)

EFFECTS OF BRIBERY AND CURRUPTION ON THE SOCIETY
Below are some of the negative consequences corruptions.
1.Lack of quality in goods and services.
2.Poor standard of education in the nation
3.Youth Unemployment
4. Half bake graduates
5. Poverty and Criminalities
6. lost of innocent lives.
7. Poor Health and hygiene
8. Lack of proper justice
9. Insecurity
10. High rate of Road Accidents
11. Lack of respect for rulers
12. Lack of faith and trust in leadership:


Certainly, corruption is not a new thing in human societies. It is an old bad character, which causes tremendous harm to society through out the history.

Frankly speaking, corruption exists when a person in power has the right to
make decisions that concern others whose interests are at stake. The interested parties
will try to find ways and means of getting what they want. One of the common ways
is to offer the person in power certain favours so that the decision is made in his
favour. This could happen only if the decision maker is willing to accept the favours
offered to him. On the other hand, if the person in power is not willing to accept such favors, then the process stops there. Unfortunately, it is not as simple. The interested party is not going to stop there either. If he thinks that the stake is too big to loose, he may be willing to give more until it becomes too much to refuse. It is also true that the disease can start from the person in power due to his greediness or selfish interest saying("but everybody does it!".


REMEDIES OR SOLUTIONS TO BRIBERY AND CURRUPTION IN THE SOCIETY
Below are some of the things that can serve as remedy to this nation killer.
1. At taqwa God-fearing: Lets us fear Allah [SWT] and work on our hearts to eliminate the greediness and selfish interest, which seem to be the seed of bribery and corruption.
2. Safe guide yourself by learning from mistakes of others, who are currently suffering from their bad actions.
3. Remember that any part of your body developed out of haram is a potion reserved for fire.
4. Beware of prayers and supplications of oppressed person against you as Allah [Swt] will grand it for him.
5. Leadership and public funds are trust [amana] and Allah [SWT] will going to ask you on how you go about it.

Conclusion
All of us know that bribery and corruption are one of the major sins in islam [kabaa’ ir] which leads to destruction of lives and properties and at the end invites Allah’s curse and anger to a person. Let’s always think of what are the after-effects of bribe we take in. lets all work on our hearts to eliminate the disease of greed and selfish interest which turn out to be the seed of bribery and corruption in Nigeria.
Stay away from it and If you cannot stop it, then at least you can do your best by supporting the fight against it and not being a part of it in any manner to save ourselves and our great nation Nigeria.
Allah [SWT] says: “ indeed, Allah will not change the condition of a people until they change what is in themselves….” Allah knows the best.

May Allah forgive me where I am wrong and guide us to the right path…Ameen.

Finally, We ask Allah the most high, to continue to guide and protect our Iman. May He [SWT] assist us and ease our tasks in this world and in the hereafter. O Allah grant us peace in our hearts, peace in our homes, peace in our working places and eliminate bribery and corruption in our country Nigeria. Ameen

If the Soldiers is Reading You people comments ... he will totally be discourage, he knew Nigeria is not that good before he signed up for the Army... Mr  Frank Dorbu is from Boue in Khana Local Government and has gallantly defended Nigeria against the heartless insurgents.

The earlier our southern soldiers use their brain to manage the difficult situation they find themselves the better.

I do not think the crisis has a tentative end date.

The earlier the federal government recognize the need to start talks with Boko Haram to arrive at a peace deal the better for Nigeria.

At the moment, the federal government is draining the little proceeds from crude oil on a guerrila war that is likely to drag on for many years.
