I THINK transfer of ownership is just a transferrable piece of paper. The details remain the same In the MVAA system database. I SUSPECT it takes a lot of "man-know-man" to make any alterations to that database, and of course some money. So why not just re-register?

i bought a used car last year and the number plate carried the previous owner's name (This i confirmed during change of ownership at their office since vehicle license and certificate is done online by them with their database)

after a year, time for renewal, i took a closer look at the chassis number/VIN and noticed a number was ommited. I called their attention to it before the renewal was done. he only asked me for the number plate.. all details were shown to me on the system, which carries my name now instead of the previous user.

my point is. Change/Certificate of ownership is very important and done legally in the right way as just inputting your plate number on their system will show exactly who it belongs to and the VIN of the car the Plate is attached to

This happened because proper processing of change of ownership was not done.
This is why we advise our clients to be patient enough to follow the right procedure when processing their documents.
If the right procedure is not followed while processing a change of ownership, a no in the chassis no/Vin no could either be altered.
Most times, this happens due to impatience from the client or greediness on the side of the agents being that they don't want to loose jobs.
