​Google has released the results of its 2018 Year in Search on Wednesday which revealed the year’s major moments and top trends based on searches conducted in Nigeria.

The 2018 Year in Search list contains the top trending news moment, music and movies that got the attention of Nigerians as well as the people, places, and things that trended.

Atiku Abubakar, the presidential aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), is Nigeria’s top trending politician on Google in 2018.

The 72-year-old politician was Nigeria’s vice president between 1999 and 2007 when Olusegun Obasanjo was president.

He will be contesting in the 2019 presidential election, with Peter Obi as his running mate, hoping to displace the incumbent president, Muhammadu Buhari who is also seeking re-election with the All Progressives Congress ticket.

“This year’s most searched news event was the Osun elections, which gripped national attention in September due to alleged incidents of voter intimidation and interference,” a statement by the company read.

Wininng an incubent gov't is going to be a tough nut, cause this Buhari is not a weakling like the prev president, beside Atiku himself is of questionable character and d so called PDP is also full of members with qtnabu characters... so how are they better than this present gov't? ..... voting for PDP or APC in 2019 is like voting against my conciense , I would rather vote Hashim or Durotoye

From my little experience, An Aspirant that is popular online usually finds it difficult to win elections.

I have googled him a couple of times and I am only looking to read about his corrupt practices.

Most definitely because he's not known nationwide enough. Most people are hearing his name for the first time and hence trying to search who the hell he is. Atiku is only known among the elites. The common men don't know and don't wish to know him.

And as well, I think most of those searches were in a bid to ascertain his fraud case in the United States. And I think he made it even more obvious when he couldn't make the visa work out.
