The people of Ezere in Isuikwuato local government area of Abia state were on Sunday thrown into confusion as a man whose name was given as Ejike took his own life by setting himself ablaze over a misunderstanding with his wife.

Though reason for the misunderstanding could not be ascertained as at the time of this report, ABN TV however gathered that Mr. Ejike before setting himself ablaze had macheted the wife severally, causing her a serious body injury.

An eye witness who spoke with our correspondent disclosed that passersby had rescued Ejike's wife from his grip and rushed her to the hospital.

Ostensibly sensing that she could die of the injuries he inflicted on her, he went into his car, unknown to people he had a container of fuel in the car. According to the eyewitness, after sitting in the car for a while, Mr. Ejike went into his room, took a box of matches and later came to the car and picked the container of fuel, poured on himself and lit the match, setting himself fire.

All efforts by passers-by to save him proved abortive. Meanwhile, all efforts to reach the Abia State Police command over the incident proved abortive.
