Ben Murray-Bruce, the Senator representing Bayelsa East district has cited a major problem with 2019 budget presented to National Assembly on Thursday by President Muhammadu Buhari.


Bruce in a series of tweets on Saturday, said the amount proposed for servicing debts borrowed by the Buhari’s government in three years was a serious problem to the 2019 fiscal budget.

The Bayelsa lawmaker wrote: “The main issue with the 2019 budget is that Nigeria has borrowed so much money these last 3 years that we now spend more on servicing our debts (that is paying interests, not paying off the debts) than we do on infrastructure. And twice paying salaries what we spend on projects.”


Bruce further condemned Buhari for having more recurrent expenditure in 2019 budget despite his criticisms at ex-president Goodluck Jonathan of making high expenditures in 2015.

According to him, “President Buhari criticised Goodluck Jonathan for having a high recurrent expenditure, but it is so funny that in his latest budget, recurrent expenditure has doubled from what it was in 2015. My advice to the President is this-make your words sweet, just in case you have to eat them.”

the problem with Nigerians is this erronous belief that once u criticise buhari it automatically makes u a PDP apologist, far from that, Nigeria has enormous human and natural resources that can take this country far far....but we continue supporting these vagabonds in power PDP and APC inclusive.... with the way APC has gone so far it won't take them up to 16yrs to completely annihilate our economy. the earlier we see that the ppl occupying the PDP and APC parties are bad for the progress of Nigeria the better. look at what APC has reduced the VP to, an ebullient pastor going around sharing 10k in d name of trademoni....while buhari and cohorts sit on the major economic sectors of Nigeria like petroleum etc.

It was an hogwash from Ben Bruce. The debt Buhari is servicing ,half of it was bequeathed to the nation under oil boom by Ben's PDP. Is the security agencies , that suffered huge sabotage from Ben Bruce and his cliques, and whose salaries are sacrosanct or what should be left out of the recurrent expenditures ?

Can't the Senator start by donating half of his salary to folks like you help reduce the effect of the recession PDP brought on us since 2014? Is his N11b unpaid loan not part of the big hole in CBN's pocket that PMB is trying to block?

When Ben Bruce becomes a president in a recession, he can practice his economic inventions using the lives of PDP as his experimental Guinea pigs .

PMB is doing fairly reasonably by trying to spend our way out of this PDP recession while investing in our future in form infrastructural dev ( road ,railway, power etc)- reason for borrowing-and at the same time managing the dead weights that debts hang on a national socio-economy if left unattended to.
