A 52-year-old mechanic, Abiodun Sikiru, who allegedly absconded with his customer’s car valued at N2.8m, was brought before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Sikiru, who lives at 63 Akinwale Street, Igando, Lagos, is facing four counts bordering on breach of peace, stealing and obtaining under false pretences.

He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

According to the police prosecutor, Michael Unah, the accused stole one Ford Focus car with number plate AX 709 KUJ, valued at N2.8m, the property of one Mr Jimie Enobong.

Unah said the accused committed the offences sometime in February 2016 at 237 Ikorodu Road, Ilupeju, Lagos.

He added that the accused unlawfully obtained the sum of N500,000 from the complainant on the pretext of using it to fix the gearbox of the car, a representation he knew to be false.

Why is that in Nigeria, even if there catch you red handed you go still plead not guilty. While in USA if you plead not guilty and they later find out say you dey guilty there go increase your punishment.

That was how one car wash guy made me very uncomfortable on Saturday morning. After leaving the car at about 9:00 AM, I came back at about 11:00 AM and he was just about done. He then turned and told me he tried starting the car, but it didn't respond. Asked if the car has a security system in place, I told him 'Yes'. After awhile, he turned and asked about the security in Hausa; I didn't even allow him finish before asking him why he wanted to know where it was and how to operate it. He said something about him washing the engine or something.

His actions suddenly became very suspicious to me. In short, I had to take a long detour, and make sure I noticed all the cars behind me before taking the turn to my house.

Call me paranoid, but it is better to be safe, than sorry.

What's the mechanic's name and tribe, please? I'm currently working on an important research, and those info are much needed. Thank you.

This happened to me. I told the guy to sell my van as I didn't want to do transport business any longer. He repaired it and took off, driving commercially from Lagos to Abuja/ Kaduna

Just 3 months ago, I went to the police. Those ones were just after my money. I cried to God one day, I said, "I did not steal money to buy that van and I paid my tithe!"

A week later, the mechanic guy and two others were on their way to Kaduna from Lagos; they had an accident and all three died on the spot. The mechanic's head was smashed.
