There was a reason why Virgil was still at the Saints at that time. No club was willing to pay the insane amount of money the saints had as His get out Fee. And rightly so as He was merely just a Very good defender then not the Great one we know now.

What are the attributes of CR7 that Hazard has?

You forget to add one of his sterling qualities, moments of brainfart.
Forget the burst of pace, he isn't a better defender than Trippier.

I did suspect you might bring this up. I don't even think he makes that many errors to begin with. He might be impetuous and get overexcited when attacking and his decision making can be funny at times but his defensive mistakes are few and far between.

Oh, Walker is definitely better when it comes to defending. Trippier sometimes gets so carried away with attacking that he forgets his defensive duties.. There has been instances this season when his defense has been called into question.

Take for example, in their home game against Barca, 3 of the goals Spurs conceded came from crosses from his own side of the pitch. Everyone blamed Lloris for the Coutinho goal and rightly so but there was also that comical attempt by Trippier to head away a long pass from midfield by Messi, which he missed and allowed Alba to get in behind. Lloris panicked and rushed out trying to close down Alba. The rest is history.

You might also remember Tottenham's 3-2 win at Wolves, a couple of weeks after that. Their Argentine youngster Juan Foyth infamously gave away 2 penalties in that game but I still remember Trippier losing the ball while trying to nutmeg an opponent in front of his box, leading to the first penalty and then losing his man in the buildup to the second pk.

Interestingly, I managed to dig up Pochettino's comments after that game. Here's what he had to say about Trippier:

A few of His matches actually. Both at Celtic and the Saints. He looked good in both jerseys but I wouldn't say He stood out to the extent I thought He'd be a world beater someday a la Sandro Nesta at Lazio. He has improved year on year and is currently doing extremely well(the best Central Defender in the League). Credit to whom it's due.

Was He chased away or did He ask to be traded due to Him played everywhere but His prefered starting position? Apart from Kompany, City is yet to acquire a Central Defender as good as Him since His departure.

I actually took note of VVD at Celtic.

No one says he's not good. He's a very good defender, IMO the best in the EPL currently. However, for you to be compared to such legends, you need to be consistently good for a number of seasons and pick up a few trophies along the way.

stay on course don't be distracted. Those na normal thing. Humans tend to have that now feeling. They forget the past and ignore what the future holds. Na normal thing. No be today. Just like for me. No footballer currently plays as good as delima. But we get flawed by what we are seeing now.

Wenger (Arsenal) passed on the opportunity to sign him when he was at Celtic because he was "too nonchalant".
The club instead paid 16m pounds for Chambers. Southampton then bought VVD for 13m. They couldn't believe their luck.

Just one of the many fuckkkc ups that's associated with Wenger's later years at Arsenal.
