Well, we are here!

Happy New Year to all Nairalanders all over.

This is a new year, and while we may not fancy the concept of new year resolutions like before, we can at least try improve on somethings within reach....

1. Take Up Savings more seriously

The idea is, its going to be quite hard, but towards the end of 2018, the situation in the country inspired many youths to save what many called "Lose change" in a wooden safe, or a piggybank. And the results have never been disappointing, but quite astonishing.

Many got as much as #35,000 to hundreds of thousands from this process. It looks meagre to many but its worth trying.

Well if you aren't disciplined enough, try to and watch how this changes you altogether to how you spend and differentiating between what you need and what you want...

2: Stop the emphasis on haters

Life is much more than watching what others are going to say about you. But having this deadly height of insecurity that makes you divert energy to haters, recognising them and mentioning them all over social media is just a waste of time. Why? You think the rantings free you up, but you get the wrong motivation moving forward, and then end up doing all trying to prove them wrong.

That isnt life! That's Mental Slavery! Personally i just don't even understand why you give them attention. I don't even act like i gat haters and my head is cool and life is not stressful with that thought. Hop on and see how it feels. Focus energy on better things.

3. Read more Books

I have to say that the guys do alot of readings than the girls especially when it's gonna help solve one or two problems that hinders them. So yes this might be more for the ladies, but irrespective, everyone should improve on just reading to expand your knowledge depth.
Alot is hidden in real hard cover books and only 10-15percent of them get to surface all over social media.

Make this interesting and inspire yourself to read at least 5 books a month. And this is far away from any encouragement to read romantic novels.. No!!!!

4. Reduce Screentime

This sounds like impossicant to many cos they are so glued to their screens that they can't imagine just dropping it for 24hrs and live life without the screen.

Many of us even have the habit of first going for our phones the seconds we wake without "even checking if we can still move our legs first"

Medically too, it's adverse effects on the eyes is not good and even your forehead, eyes bears the pain, etc.

Make a decision to live 24hrs without your phone first, break that mental bondage.

5. Keep Pictures

Throwbacks are one of the best ways to know you're progressing and at least, physically. The going digital age has almost made many to rarely keep pictures, and most times these devices are not reliable like that. Some get wiped, etc. so keep them at least for every location, moments you step in. Don't let the tradition die with our parents.

6. Learn a new language

Asides your mother tongue, try to add a new language to your skills. The education system in the country made it possible for most of our parents to speak more than one language, but that just crumbles somewhere in time.

Now we can't learn the 3 major languages in school outside the regional system(The universities even take up French and Arabic, with many ending up not using it to communicate)

Imagine being able to speak fluently both Ibo and Hausa/Fulani and you're a typical Yoruba man?!!

You can explore and go for Spanish, Zulu, Latin, Chinese also. Helps with exploration!

7. Observe and Appreciate true friends

Most times we don't always appreciate those that pull strings for us as they deserve. We are too occupied with the now moment and we get carried away with fellows that we just have common interests in, and forget those who really make things work for us. We often leave them at the background, unappreciated most times. Put a stop to that this year. Know your true friends and appreciate them. They always remember to return the favour, making the bond stronger.

8 Environmental Health

I recall fondly this being a course in the university, while i was still a fresher or in year 2.

We often move to a new place and before you know it, refuse disposal becomes a hitch. While we can't but blame our governments inadequacies in this regard, it's best you change the way you look at your immediate environs and participate in keeping it clean. Don't wait till month end to do the Sanitation Exercise that is fast fading in relevance.

Ladies should learn how to dispose refuse and not just keep targeting culverts, water channels and expect "someone" to "clear it up"

A doctor once told me most public refuse dumping spots scattered over many states were started by women who had nowhere to dump refuse so every one took the initiative.....

Be responsible and be clean. The grasses, litters and other things that make your home a mess publicly. Don't be pushed before you act. Indoors is not only your responsibility. Keep your environment cleaaannn!!!

9. Timewasters in Relationships

If you know you have no destination, don't waste his/her time just counting numbers on a calendar by staying under a roof together, expecting the best time to come.

If you can't sit and be definite with him/her, just walk away. That's how a guy courted a lady for 10yrs and didn't pop the question. Who is to blame? Village people i guess!!! undecided Stop the timewasting!!

10. Know Yourself

Everyone of us have something that just makeus standout wherever we go. It is usually "normal" to us, but it makes us unique. Most times, encouragement isn't forthcoming and these talents, gifts, skills die. Some get cut right down the middle and so it ends.

Be happy that the era where our parents were just after their kids studying 4 courses in the whole 500+ available, is fading fast. Doctor, Engineer, Lawyer, Accountancy/Banker. There's more than these now and it's not everyone that would do all these 4 amongst 60million youths seeking admission. So walk in line and know what makes you tick.

Sometimes, discovering yourself is going to take time.

Just like Adekunle Gold, when graduating from Laspotech didn't know music was going to be what he would be doing 5yrs later.

or

Francisca Ordega, that wanted to just be a ballgirl at any stadium but is now the face of the women's national team, Super Falcons, and is just getting started....

Just don't give up..... Believe, but work hard towards it.

God bless us all as we take a new step this new year despite how things are right now, we hope on!

Gracias.
Compiled by me.
