If you have a very good background in Mathematics, you can apply(as a science student) for Bsc Mathematics and Economics(Combined degree).

He can apply for Mathematics and Economics. All that is required is a minimum of a credit pass in English, Mathematics and Economics and two other science subjects taken from Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Agricultural Science and Geography.
However, he should be sure that Mathematics and Economics is what he really wants to study. It's very stressful.

Of course it is possible. There's no competition as people transferring from other departments to Mathematics are quite few(if any).
When filling transfer form, you should know that they are three programs under that department.

Bsc Mathematics (Single Honours)
Bsc Industrial Mathematics (Single Honours)
Bsc Mathematics and Economics ( Combined Honours).

I shall give a synopsis on this fields for you anyone who might be interested in Coming into Mathematics department.

Bsc Mathematics is just like other Mathematics program in other universities and I need not waste too much time on that here.

On the other hand, Industrial Mathematics is another programme people outside Mathematics department actually do not understand. The name alone is misleading, some actually think it's the Mathematics of machines and engines used in Industries.
But in reality it's not the case. As an Industrial Mathematics student, in your first year in school your only core courses(outside GST) are Mathematics, Computer Science, and Business Adminstration(BUS).
Electives includes Physics, Chemistry, Economics and Statistics.
At 200-300 level, the story remains the same, Core courses are BUS(business), Mathematics, and CSC. Electives includes Accounting, Economics and some other Mathematics courses not listed as core on the prospectus.

In summary? Industrial Mathematics is a really nice program if you you're someone with a very strong Mathematics background and desires to apply your Mathematics skills to areas of Programming, Statistics, Business and even Accounting. It's makes you versatile. I like the program but it's not what I'm studying.

BSC Mathematics and Economics.
This is my area. To be honest with you, don't apply for this program except you really have passion for both Mathematics and Economics. It remains the most frustrating among all the programs in Mathematics department and the rate at which students fail are higher in this program compared to Mathematics or Industrial Mathematics.

Please don't apply except you have the passion for it.
Here, I shall list just 2 disadvantages associated with taking this program.

1. In your first year, your core courses span over 3 Faculties (Physical Science, Social Science and Management Sciences). As a science student that have not done accounting before, I know what I passed through understanding those book keeping and journal entries.
Not just that, clearance can be stressful coupled with the fact that you must always have to lecture lecture halls from 3 faculties. The stress is quite high at 100 level.

2. Timetables will always clash. This one is the worst, even MathsEco students in 200 and 300 levels were telling us that we've not even seen anything yet. You'll be having Maths classes from 10-12am and Economics classes from 11-12. Sometimes we'll be having Economics from 10-11 and Mathematics from 11-12. In a nutshell, you're always late for all the classes and it would leave you disorganized and you're always going to have to sit at the back, especially in 100level.

It is worth noting the no(2) above is not peculiar to UNIBEN only buy even to top Universities in Western countries, timetables always clash because you're running a program from 2 faculties will different schedules. In some cases, even exam timetables can clash just that the course rep would have to meet lecturers to sort it out (It happened to us last semester but nothing much was done on it, after writing MTH125, you need to see how we were rushing down to LT1 to write ECO122).

It can be frustrating but still, it's a wonderful program.
You can decide to continue and run your PhD in Mathematics or in Economics.
On the case of employment, your Economics and Mathematics degree will definitely give you an edge, especially if you work hard enough and come out with top grades (Although you must be ready to pay the price, no average student can make a 2.1 in this program ).

Thanks. . And for the affidavits, its better to type it in school before going to stamp at the Court, it shouldn't be more than 150per letter.. Lasttime I went to typean affidavit at the Sapele Road I was charged 500 per letter

There's a Department of Statistics. It's no longer attached to Mathematics department as before. When that new school building facing Physical Science 1000LT is completed. They'll finally be free from Mathematics department.
