The ultra-modern Ikeja Bus Terminal was commissioned last year, precisely in March, 2018.

The event organized to commission the facility was attended with so much fanfare. The President of Nigeria – Mohammadu Buhari- did the honours of launching the landmark transport terminal situated in the heart of Ikeja.

Ironically, the terminal was touted as one of the best things to have happened to Lagos in terms of public transportation,. It was for this reason it was dubbed a world-class bus terminal and not bus-stop, especially after critics questioned the rationale of a president commissioning a ‘bus-stop’.

Months after  its commissioning, the imposing public transport facility is yet to be put in use.

However, and oddly, renovation work is currently going on there.

The interlocking stones have been uprooted and a number of other things within the terminal are being reconfigured.

Interestingly, part of the reconstruction work going on within the facility is the erection of a privately-owned, but government-approved shopping mall.

The reason for the reconstruction of the Ikeja Bus Terminal is unclear.

The cost of constructing the Ikeja Bus Terminal was not made public. Thus, it is also unclear how much this afterthought will cost the tax payers in Lagos state.

The Ikeja bus terminal will serve as the hub of all transport activities within the Ikeja Zone, serving over 50,000 passengers daily and providing access to many destinations, including Oshodi, Ojota, Iyana-Ipaja, Maryland, Agege, Ogba, CMS, Obalende, and Iyana-Ipaja.

Reconstructing an already commissioned project Only APC government can do this kind of stupidity.This is another negative on Buhari as a president.

The reconstructed Ikeja Bus Hub after commissioning will ever remain a shame to his credit.Govt of trial & error.

You have answered your own question.. the reason for the reconstruction is for the private, but government approved shopping to be put into effective use, considering the volume of people or traffic that will run in the terminal and by extension the mall daily

The whole state is keeping an eye on ONE bus terminal. BUS TERMINAL. And this is the state will the largest economy in Nigeria! Well, let's just say that a bus terminal is a 21st century invention. But then just look at the crappy building

I remembered the day this yeye terminal was commissioned, everywhere was jam packed.... I almost missed my flight to Abuja that very day

Autojosh, Lagos is overrated in some areas, go and see AKTC park in Akwa Ibom, unbelievable.

Ambode was just too overzealous, didn't plan alot of what he started well. Started too many projects at the same time.

Lagos state governors are very wasteful they only appear to be working cuz there is more than enough. I heard the other day that over 1 billion dollars spent on light rail yet its still not ready.

Ambode's denial of second term is causing serious shunting and bridging of his brain cells.

This same project that brought Dawan in Aso rock to Lagos resulting in severe hardship for the commutting public is now been renovated.

"ultra modern" the most abused word by Nigerian politicians. And since most people have not had a better experience, they swallow hook line and sinker.

When i look many countries for picture, e dey look clean/neat. Nigeria is just too dusty, dirty, and unpleasant to the eyes through the camera or in person.
