How much in salary per month does an average worker receive - that should be the basic consideration.

This kind of report vexes me

Because doesn’t take into consideration that Purchasing power of Nigerians is one of the lowest in the world

Even as they say PMS in Nigeria is the cheapest in the world .it is very expensive to millions of Nigerians living in abject poverty

That's good. Let it be like that until the majority of the citizens of this country can begin to enjoy some other real benefit of being a citizen of one of the largest oil producing nations. In a country we are still arguing about paying N30,000 (less than $100) a month as minimum wage, the IMF and other proponents for the removal of subsidy want us to pay what they are paying in America for petrol. They are not serious. If they want to increase the price of petrol, they should improve the economy.

So that's why they plan to increase it again?

Because we are selling fuel at N145 per liter when it costs N190 to import it.

The Government pays a subsidy...of about N45 per liter (sometimes as high as N65 per liter) ...to keep the price low. Problem is, it means NNPC just makes back the cost of importation, and does not make a profit.

Also paying subsidy is costing the government big time...and is not sustainable.

What if we start refining our own products, won't it be cheaper? Afterall it was more cheaper 4 years ago.

Well if we refined all the fuel weproduce at home...it would still cost at least N150 perliter....

4 years ago fuel cost N87 per liter...only in Lagos and Abuja. Landing costs was above N120 per liter. Govt was owing subsidy claims from 2012 because of increasing unsustainability.

[quote author=jchima14 post=74844305]Its is not just about the price, can you compare the GDP of those countries with that of Nigeria?

Spot on. It's unwise and unfair to compare prices of fuel in different countries but rather, we should consider the standard of living of such countries. Compare it with the minimum wage of Nigeria. What is the purchasing power of the naira.

Thank you. Petrol at N145 per litre is not in any way cheap to me. Almost every aspect of our economy is tied to PMS (electricity generation at home, electricity generation for small and medium sized businesses, public transportation of goods and services, private transport). Any misguided attempt to increase the price without addressing these issues will create undue hardship.

We should be at no1. No thanks to the Dullard.

No, I won't blame Bubu for this one.

The reasons why we don't have investment in new refineries is that subsidy means that marketers sell fuel below the production cost.

Meaning if someone comes in to build a refinery he or she would be selling at a loss to marketers...or marketers would be selling at a loss.

Yes, Dangote...but thing is, Dangote is not going to sell fuel to marketers below N150 per liter. Not with all the loans he has taken.

Why didn't you dig out this statistics when fuel was selling at N87?

How many oil producing nations sell more expensive than us?

How many of these countries run their homes and businesses on PMS?

Lemme give you an example: An average family man “in a fuel expensive country” uses about 10 liters of petrol per month. Full is not scarce and thus not adultrated. Also it is well regulated. There are staff buses to take him to work. He also can use air-conditioned public transport to work. He needs no generator to power his apartmenr, or run his business. 10 liree

Now answer me: how many liters of fuel (on the average) does a family man need per month in Nigeria?

Is Zon-B-ism the best work you can do in this world?

You're very smart
