I have come realize that conventional oils come in different weights like 5w-20 0w-20 etc. These oils are not synthetic. So is it compulsory to use only synthetic oil for oil change. or can these conventional oils be used too? From gazzuzz and the likes, it is as if one must use only synthetic oils for oil change.
Can someone shed more light on this.

If you don't mind changing oil every 3k miles, than use conventional oil o.. Me personally I can't use it .. I don't even have time to even change oil on full synthetic ,na conventional oil I go get time for ? I speak in terms of personal car

True sir.
Conventional(or mineral) will require more frequent changes (usually 3k miles) compared to synthetic blend. Frequency of oil changes is even lesser with Fully synthetic.

Unless a car specifically States synthetic, it's not necessary. Just be aware that conventional is typically 3000 miles/3 months and synthetic is typically 5,000 miles/6 months whichever comes first. Most modern cars will tell you when they need one.

More important is using the right oil and regular filter changes. And 3...2....1...

Okay time to focus on the real subject.

Synthetic oil does not burn easily so the interval is extended when compared to conventional oils.

Conventional oils are recommend for 3000-5000 miles and semi-synthetic and synthetic go for 7000-10000 miles.
But it is still recommended that they are replaced at 6 months.

The most important thing is that the oil meets manufacturer recommendation, it might be the right weight but not fit for the vehicle eg Chrysler MS-6395, Mercedes MB229.1, GM Dexos oils, and VW/Audi use VW501, VW502 etc

Unless those specs are written on your oils assume it is not recommended for your car as engine tolerance gets tighter for fuel economy and emissions oil specs get changed so the engine oil in you 2005 Mercedes will destroy your 2017 Mercedes. That is why you rarely see 10w30 on any of the newer cars
