NUC Plans First Nigerian Universities Ranking In 14 Years by Anambralstson: 7:02am On Jan 20, 2019
The National Universities Commission has said that it had not ranked the nation’s universities in the last 14 years, and declared that claims to that effect were “simply fake’’.
Abubakar Rashid, its Executive Secretary, in an address at the 3rd Combined Convocation of the Bingham University, Karu in Nasarawa State, urged members of the public to disregard recent rankings said to have been done by the NUC.
“The purported ranking published in the conventional and social media is false, fake and not from the NUC. It is meant to deceive members of the public and should be disregarded,’’ Mr Rashid said.

Mr Rashid, however, said that the NUC would soon carry out the ranking to determine the true status of the universities, adding that the exercise would represent a true assessment of the schools by the NUC.
He challenged Nigerian universities to put more efforts into research so as to proffer solutions to the nation’s myriad of problems.
The NUC boss commended ECWA Church, the proprietor of Bingham University, for tackling the crises that hit the school some years ago, and even led to students’ unrest.
He particularly commended the Acting Vice Chancellor, William Barnabas Qurix, for successfully steering the school through its “turbulent moments’’, saying that the NUC was impressed with his capacity to always “listen to wise counsel’’.
Such efforts have set the university on the path of progress and massive growth. The institution is back on track and the dark days are now in the past. It has become a centre of excellence and we are all happy,’’ he said.
Mr Rashid said that he was part of “a clique’’ that “conscripted’’ Qurix into the job because he was sure that his five years experience as Vice Chancellor of the Kaduna State University would help him to addresses the challenges.
“Prof. Qurix was conscripted into this job. He was practically `ambushed’ and I was at the thick of that plot. I am happy that we have not been disappointed,’’ he said.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that 676 graduates received first degrees during the combined convocation with 33 of them bagging First Class.
NAN also reports that more than 50 Vice Chancellors of various universities attended the convocation ceremony of the 13 years old institution. (NAN)

The ranking body is not far from the truth....
This is taking us down memory lane.
The mature people will remember some of the years listed below, not for the indomie generation!

This is the beginning of the .........
COLLAPSE OF NIGERIAN UNIVERSITIES

Incessant ASUU strike is a criterion that has made Nigeria Universities ranking sink globally. Between 1999-2017 of OBASANJO & ATIKU's 8yrs as President and Vice-president, Nigeria Universities were shut for a cumulative FOUR YEARS & SIX MONTHS.
ASUU STRIKES IN NIGERIA:
1999 - 5 months
2001 - 3 months
2002 - 2 wks
2003 - 6 months(ended 2004)
2005 - 3 days
2006 - 1 wk
2007 - 3 months
2008 - 2 (1 week) each
2009 - 3 months
2010 - 5 months, 1wk
2011 - 3 months(ended 2012)
2013 - 5 months, 15 day
2017 - 1 month, 6 days

Wait for the shocker!

The most striking thing about the 2003 ASUU strike, which was d longest in d history of Nigeria was that, Instead Atiku to lead persuasion to end the strike because of untold hardship poor students were going through, Atiku started building his university.
ATIKU's AUN had opened for business in 2004 before a dime was paid to lecturers who Obasanjo withhold their salaries in over six months.
Obasanjo quickly approved for himself license for Bells University in 2005 without FEC approval when ASUU issued him another warning strike.

There's no skill on d account for which ATIKU is being sold for 2019, that ATIKU has ever used in the interest of the nation and poor masses when he had power, and even after. Key positions in his University are filled with foreign academician at the expense of qualified Nigerians.

On a lighter note, if either of your parents was studying at about 2003 and you were born 2004, ask them to tell you more about the "2003 mother of all ASUU strikes."

So they've been idle for the past 14 years while receiving salaries?

To Ignore means you do not respond. How can you inform me that you are ignoring me? You dumbfuckk! grin

I did not expect an intelligent response so I'm not even surprised, after all the person you support reeks of dullness and lacks the ability to reason deep, same with people like you, hence your watery first comment.

You're better off grilling fish and meat as your hobby, I bet you've grilled your brains too. Who knows? grin
