NURSE COUNSELLOR

Job Description.

Under the supervision of the Nurse Supervisor, the nurse will:

Provide confidential and quality care, including counselling, treatment and follow-up to victims of sexual violence.
Administrate treatment according to MSF protocols and Doctor’s prescription.
Actively promote the availability of counseling services and carry out counseling, basic psycho-educational sessions, to victims and their families or caretakers in order to improve their psychosocial condition.
Work in collaboration with the psychologist: identify patient at risk and refers patient to the psychologist if needed.
Works in collaboration with social worker to ensure that social and protection needs are attended to. He/she is able to recognise a child at social risk.
Ensure confidentiality and victim’s protection according to the legal frame defined by MSF legal department.
Required Skills and Conditions:

Education: Recognized nurse diploma/degree essential
Experience:
2 years of previous experience and previous experience in other NGOs desirable
Previous experience in Sexual Violence desirable
Languages: Pidgin and English required; additional local languages desirable.

Prepare and maintain the Excel files for weekly surveillance of CS Meningitis, Yellow Fever, Cholera, Lassa Fever (and when needed other epidemic prone diseases) cases including population figures.
Carry out passive epidemiological surveillance by establishing weekly contacts with States and LGAs agencies as well as analysing datas of NCDC and States.
Report each contact and the main info of the conversation to the follow up tool.

During the ‘Exploratory Mission’ Period of time:
Participate in conducting exploratory missions for epidemic prone disease.
Participate to the report of in the exploratory missions reports.
Participate to the proposal of intervention based on the report of exploratory missions reports.
Define the staffing of nurses needed for the project.
Participate in to the recruitment of nurses.
Intervene in emergency responses that are proposed and validated
Required Skills and Conditions:

Speciality, Nursing diploma essential
Essential 2 years of previous experience with MSF or other NGO’s and in developing countries is desirable.
