Ethical Hacking Vs Software Engineering: Advice Needed by Escalze(m): 4:53pm On Jan 17, 2019
Goodday everyone.

I am about to undertake a professional course in one of the two but I am still a bit confused as to which one I should choose.

Experts in the house, I need advice as to which one would be a better choice based on productivity, job security and basically an overview of both courses.

Thank you as you offer help to a brother.

Not necessarily, if you have a good background of programming you can venture into anyone but if not, you will have to learn some languages unless you want to be a script kiddie.

Since you'll get the Pali I'll advise to go for software why.... You hardly see jobs on ethical hacking best thing is bug bounties and I don't think I'll employ an ethical hacker based on Pali but on what you've done and can do. Software engineers are needed all over from web development which I'll advice you to go into to machine learning and the rest and there's huge pay too and also software engineers do the work of ethical hackers by testing for bugs before production but not too in-depth though.

ehm debugging is not necessarily ethical hacking. The kind of debugging software engineers do are not same kind of debugging ethical hackers do. I just have to clarify that. Meanwhile, ethical hacker is a field which is gathering serious interest in Nigeria this day unlike you said.

The actual difference is that hackers debug with assemblers since they don't have access to the code. I don't think any right thinking firm would employ any engineer who doesn't know how to test his system for loophole. If you feel hacking in terms of ddos and botnets and the rest then it's pretty useless going to a school on that when you can learn at home. Imagine you interviewing an hacker and the only thing he can boast of is having some professional certificate.

Don't get the wrong impression, you seem not to be able to distinguish a security expert and a software engineer. A software engineer could be a security expert also., which is where you have a point and this is because ethical hacking is part of the advance concepts of software security which is why anyone venturing into it is adviced to have a certificate in CS, Engineering related field.
An ordinary Software engineer can fix some software breakdown and minor bugs but cannot do some advance penetration, testing and exploit that take good amount of knowledge of security to know. Banks, company, e-business, research center, server center are looking for hackers/security expert everywhere. I sincerely think you make further research about Security Expert/Ethical hacking.

OP sorry for not answering your question all along. software engineers is the way actually, this is because at the extreme is also where you can find ethical hacking as a bonus and can even concentrate at that point if you wnat. Nevertheless, if you have a CS or engineering(computer) degree you can jump straight into ethical hacking right away.
In conclusion I advice you go for the two but software engineering first(if you don't have any cs/Eng degree)

I prefer software engineering. It's really easy to cooperate and to work in this sphere. I am currently using https://www.intellectsoft.net/services/dedicated-development-team development firm to work on my projects because they have good skilled developers and do any project on time.
Thank you for sharing the information, but I would recommend the guys from the MWDN, worked with them, their dedicated team did everything at the highest level, the work was presented on time, the communication was excellent, and I was very pleased.

I repeat you can never be a hacker or ethical hacker without being a software engineer meaning a software programmer that writes code or at least learn the basic of programming, is like someone trying to hack a website without even knowing how to host a domain so where do you start, a certified hacker or ethical hacker is someone who hack computer system using his own develop program and not someone's else or the ability to use command prompt to hack without even writing a program rather using command to bypass security so I advise you go for software engineering where you will be thought programming language of different kinds and by then ethical hacking will just be a bonus.
