Allstrasse:
1. I assume that you are a serious minded fellow (I believe you will be serious enough to take action on whatever you decide)

2. I also deduce that you are based in Owerri (correct me if I am wrong).

3. It is also appears evident that like me you are not interested in anything online business....at least for now.

4. I am not selling anything here but could recommend some products/companies......should you request for this (by pm only)

Having stated the above I am going to recommend a model for you that is simply phenomenal. My contributory post will be free but will come in two or three parts.I will nonetheless ask you to consider it and then decide if it is worthwhile and of course if it is in sync with your aspirations; the latter being very important.

In putting all the contemporary variables into consideration and adding the fact that this may be your first incursion to big business (as inferred from the reason behind you putting up the post in the first place) your best bet is an investment in fast Moving Consumer Goods Business. It is the best rung on the business ladder that you can launch out from.

This model thrives on high density demographics so Owerri Municipality would be a good starting point and also a nucleus for Imo State. you could then expand into Orlu and Okigwe while of course ensuring that the Mbaise stretch is also taken care of adequately (No I am not from there, never lived there but did work as National Sales Manager for various companies and for many years too so I know the whole country quite well).

There are multiple stages you would have to go through in order to arrive at your desired eldorado.

Step one would be to identify a good product from a reasonably sized company. My suggestion would be that the product in question is not at the moment available in owerri and Imo State. The preferred product should also be a daily need or a snack/juice that appeals to young and old alike. Alternatively, you could chose two products from the same company (either a small cheap like Solo vs big more expensive like 1litre ). This is a very important stage in the evolution of your FMCG company. The product must be right. And remember the fewer the people who have access to its distribution in Owerri and indeed Imo State the better for you.

I will discuss step two later. Typing can prove rather difficult for some of us who are not so young after all.
i really commend ur effort .it is self explanatory especially to people like me who is about to startup a fmcg product business .. please keep step two posted..... God bless u.

Having a lucrative business to invest in can sometimes be difficult. I am a creative person and believe me when I say I have an idea to change our community. Let some of my ideas speak for me.

Step two involves priming your market/territory in order to objectively ascertain the viability of the market, the relative strength of the purchasing power of the market constituents (your potential customers) and of course the relevance of the particular product to the Owerri resident.

If you have resolved this I would then advise that you take out just 50,000.00 (1% of your capital) and conduct a trial run. You would thus be testing the waters by dipping in the tip of your toes first. If the market rejects the product then you would have lost only 1% of your capital. If the market welcomes the product then you need to order the next batch. At this point you could decide to invest up to 5% or even 10% of your capital to conduct a wider survey.

All the sampling and surveys should not exceed two weeks. This is primarily because there are people just waiting in the wings for you to complete the surveys and they jump into investing in that business. So when you have decided to invest before the actual investment you must as a matter of expedience sit down with the Management and draw up a memorandum of understanding as regards sales of the product within that territory.

I would suggest that if you are the first person to introduce the product then your best bet would be to ask for territorial exclusivity even if it is
for a short while (of course this usually costs a whole lot of money but it is worth every dime you pay for it ultimately).

I support the gentleman that suggested FMCG, the profit might be small but you will smile to the bank if you have high turn over.
One of such FMCG company with warehouse in Abuja serving the Northern part of the country is in the process of having a warehouse in Owerri to serve the eastern part of the country.
You can actually share your risk by investing in their product as well as helping transporting their goods to other customers in that region. You make money transporting for them and also by distributing their goods .

For the sake of naive people like me, can you pls mention some of those companies, even if 2 or 3 and we'll use understanding to go on with the list ourselves.. Thanks

Great business idea.

Apples are the bomb but you must be very careful too. Too many Nigerians have gone into this business now and the returns have not been so wonderful anymore. I was involved in apples for a few cycles in 2013. I still recall those days with nostalgia.
