ESSOHEngineers: I think there a power play going on in ISPON. Both isponnigeria.org and ispon.gov.ng are laying claim on safety not even software as you said. On ispon.gov.ng, i m surprised that Rivers State branch is not listed. If you are doing HSE and not in Rivers then where are you? 1 Like |

Amhappy: Yes there is an internal power tussle too in ISPON. Based on the court judgement the ispon.gov.ng seems to be the right website because the ruling was in their favour. They have also attached the Public Notification of ISPON's Judgement Order on the matter. http://www.ispon.gov.ng/NewsEvent/News?view=2 With respect to your closing statement, it is very interesting that you feel Port Harcourt should be the center for the HSE Profession. This is because you wrongly link HSE Sciences, Engineering and Management to the Oil and Gas Industry Alone. This in itself implies that you limit the application of this emerging and complicated discipline. There is no industry that doesn't require a HSE Professional. Even the Military. Recognition is of course given to the history of NISP and the role Rivers State and SPDC has played in the development of the profession in Nigeria. Good luck. 1 Like |

akins56:Check out for ISPON website or get to thier office, if there is one in your state, then check thier training schedule- for a start(as a degree holder), you are required to register and train for the General HSE (cost 45k and training is 4 days) of which you must pass the evaluation exam. After the GHSE, proceed to the HSE Competence Level 3 (costs 25k and 3 days training). Ensure you pass the evaluation exams to guarantee you for the certificate. Thereafter, start the process of applying to become a Member of the Institute (ISPON). You will write and submit 3 copies of a research project(topic chosen from the courses of interest to you) to be bounded with hard cover along with a completed application form (costs 29k), then you will face another professional exam and screening. If successful, you would be invited for the induction which normally hold in March/April or November annually. Induction fee is 35k. I think this is the summary of what I can offer you for now 1 Like |

Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by ESSOHEngineers: 5:23pm On Feb 17, 2019 |
Fabnas: Why don't you select a topic of interest? One that will add some form of value both to you as you and the society/knowledge as you research on it. As a matter of fact, where possible, you may even publish it in a HSE Journal (either local or international). First go through the training program for General HSE and HSE Level 3. These might give you an insight into the areas of interest. The topic needs to be one that takes into consideration your financial status, experience with such projects, research skills, availability of data/information, etc. Pick any HSE Dogma or Challenge and try to do a project on any of your choosing. The ability to identify problems is a critical skill in being a HSE Professional. If you want topics, these can be thrown at you, but you are still the best person to identify and pick interest in an area/topic/problem. |

Page 1-90 read! must confess, it was a long and interesting read. Must say a big kudos to every member of this thread, u all have been wonderful in many ways on this thread, most especially those of u that have taken out time to give elaborate explanations and educate many who were novice prior encountering this thread. I wanna say thanks to u all once again. I won't be asking any question for now and or at this level as I have gotten all the infos I need to kick off my safety pro. journey, like I said, I read all 90 pages and I picked up many vital and professional contributions/advice laid bare on this thread. I will be registering with ISPoN Awka for GHSE and HSE level 3 in a few weeks by the grace of God. and subsequently I would love to sit for NEBOSH IGC after obtaining my ISPoN membership. So I'm soliciting the assistance of the ever supporting members of this thread to help with HSE training materials, especially, NEBOSH IGC training materials and past Q&A. my email adi: frank4candour@gmail.com I also want to use this opportunity to state my readiness to take on any HSE trainee/Volunteer jobs if available. and oh! I have a Diploma in Civil engineering, B. Eng Civil engineering, with years of experience as a site support/supervising engineer. I'm also Handy with AutoCad, ArchiCad, and MS office packages. Once more, I'm very happy to be here and looking out to contribute to the continued success of this thread and also learn from u all. thanks all. 4 Likes |

EddyNumerouno: The Pass Score for NEBOSH IGC is such that each module MUST be passed independently. IGC 1= 45% IGC 2= 45% and IGC 3= 60% NEBOSH first uses individual and then cumulative scores for the entire exam. First, each module has to be passed independently. It is the module you dont pass that you retake/resit. With respect to cumulative scores: 210 and Above = Distinction 180-209 = Credit 150-179= Pass Below 150 = Referral (at least one of the scores in the modules must have been so low) With respect to your pass mark, you scored between 150-179. Take a look at the result breakdown per module. The general IGC Guidebook can be down loaded here. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://www.britsafe.org/media/1653/nebosh-international-general-certificate-occupational-healt-safety-guide.pdf&ved=2ahUKEwjO1oXi-_XgAhW0VBUIHSCtBzEQFjAAegQIBRAB&usg=AOvVaw0Xldxj1V4a5SQWivLrxJRy It talks about the examination including scoring etc in general. Good luck. |

anneikoro: You need to know who the trainer is What is the title of the course What is the course content What accreditation does the company have What accreditation does the specific course have What reputation does the company have What training facilities/resources do they have You need to provide these details for one to be able to appraise this training provider. |
Re: Any HSE Professionals In The House? by ESSOHEngineers: 10:22pm On Mar 09, 2019 |
anneikoro: As a graduate, you are allowed to take General HSE and then skip to HSE Level 3. Level 3 is a supervisory or Middle Management Level which in many organisations is a position for Graduates of Tertiary Institutions. General HSE is suppose to give you the background to The HSE Sciences, while level 3 is to give you the more specific HSE Supervisor skills. I recommend you save and do the ISPON first. Good luck. |
