Birth control is so important. This woman had no business getting pregnant with some serious mental health issues that needed to be taken care of first.

It seems she might not have had good or any prenatal care at all. Otherwise she would have been affiliated with a good hospital that will take her mental health into consideration while guiding her through the pregnancy.

Nigeria as a country has no structure in place to take care of less fortunate women through their pregnancy stages. And for a country that is so anti-choice, it’s really disheartening. The women are damned if they do and damned if they don’t. Disgusting.

Not the mention to total lack of investment towards mental healthcare. Could go on and on.

Yes but women are especially affected by lack of reproductive healthcare more than men. It’s literally a life or death matter for women.

But there’s also mention of mental ill health. Maybe that started somewhat recently and might have contributed to what happened. We may never know.

That's depression! I think some pregnant women suffer that or it could be after- birth depression.

If she was unstable, that wouldn't have made her slash her own stomach. There are lot of really mad people giving birth successfully.

As for the labour pain, I don't think it would have been worse than the razor pain.

She already had two children from a previous marriage seven from current marriage. She has no business getting pregnant again. How I wish these low income rural area dwellers can be enlightened that having multiple kids can be very disastrous. Till then, tragedies like this will continue
