This election would mark the second time Buhari's traditional 12 million northern votes would be divided into two by a fellow northerner. Precedent has shown that he maintains his 12 million if he ran against a southerner and loses a significant part of it running with a northerner.

Yaradua took away 6 million of it. How much of it is Atiku going to take, and how and where would Buhari get the votes to close that gap?
