The Caucasian Ovtcharka (loosely translated "Sheepdog" or "Shepherd's dog" is naturally protective, alert, aggressive (as opposed to vicious), affectionate, sensitive, wanting to please, intelligent, independent, aloof and/or distrustful of strangers. Males can be male-dog aggressive and may need to be kept separate from other males of similar dominance, although I see them constantly take unbelievable amounts of "static" from female dogs.

Major features of pure caucasian


1. Possession of dark eyes (though moderate in size) and deeply set to offer a perfect binocular vision.

2. Possession of heavy paws which gives firm standing in rough areas.

3. Possession of forelimbs which are long, straight and densely boned.

4. Dorsal stripe.

5. Hips should be slightly raised from the line of the back.

6. Tail should be covered with a long feathering of heavy hair.
