As in!! I virtually every corner now, esp the es 300 and 350.

I actually thought it was price, but it's not significantly cheaper than the more popular Camry. Likewise durability and ruggedness, it's generally similar to other Toyota products, at least from the owners I've interacted with.

I think it's just the trending car for now

How many governors or important people in your village or in this planet earth have you seen driving a Mercedes instead of the usual Landcruiser or Lexus LX?

When matured men are talking about Luxury, they're talking about matured vehicles like Lexus, Rolls Royce (BMW-oned), Cadillac not Mercedes CLA built for 17-year-old Justin Bieber fans and kids with iPhones.

Remove S600 and maybe G Wagon to some extent (even though its riddled with electric issues), there's nothing prestigious about a car brand filled with plastic-looking toys that appeals to little kids such as yahoo boys.

LS 400 1997 - my first ever car. Gulped fuel like a desert-thirsty camel. It was a V8. Overall, a good day, it did positioned me well then and also served me.

Highly subjective.

Some luxury car buyers don't care one bit about reliability. But some do. It all depends on which target market the car manufacturer is interested in.

There are some luxury car buyers who purchase luxury cars and give the same vehicles (still running perfectly) to their children 15 to 20 years later when these kids are getting ready to go to university. (And the parents go right out and buy another Toyota/Lexus. Or two.) Those are the sort of customers who buy Toyota and Lexus. And Toyota/Lexus wants to keep them happy.

Side Note: Those customers teach a beautiful lesson about how money gets to be old and then stays old. Buy something that is well designed and well made and keep your money in the bank (or wherever else it can truly work for you). Instead of trading in for the latest model in 3 years or burning piles of cash on endless out of warranty repairs (most new luxury car buyers are smart enough to avoid the latter though).

There was a time when Mercedes Benz actually sold mostly top notch vehicles and their 'best or nothing' slogan actually meant something. Those days are long gone though - perhaps forever. Toyota/Lexus occupies that space now.
