coach made the call, your job is to execute the substitution. if the player doesn't want to come off, that's a yellow for time-wasting. if he still doesn't, second yellow. if the ref had done his job Kepa would've gone to the bench complaining and with a yellow, instead of getting his way.

Azpi has been beefing with Sarri for a while. There was something Sarri said in press few weeks ago about players being unmotivated that Azpi confronted Sarri about. Azpi had backing from the players to confront Sarri, with Willian pinpointed as the main man pushing Azpi to speak to the manager. This is why Sarri took off Azpi for Zappacosta against Manure just to make a political point. This has been brewing for a while between Azpi and Sarri.

I can't say I blame Azpi though cos he's always been well behaved. Frustration with this stubborn manager has driven him to oppose the manager on behalf of all the players who are also extremely frustrated.

I remember he labeled some of those players as "undropable" in 05/06.

I think that culture has transitioned over the years. And it's the reason why even jose became a victim of such, as did conte and now Sarri almost being one himself.

Where was the referee in all this? If the manager wanted a player out and the player declines it is first the the responsibility of the ref to enforce authority! did the fourth official lift his board?

First I blame the Ref, next I blame Sarri for allowing himself be a victim of mob psychology!

It is not the refs responsibility to enforce a substitution. He can issue yellow cards if he feels the player is disturbing the game or (and) for unsporting behavior.

Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri says that extraordinary stand-off with keeper
Kepa Arrizabalaga was a "misunderstanding".
Sarri also says the Spaniard will not be disciplined by the club.
"I misunderstood the problem and only realised the situation when the doctor arrived at the bench.
"It was a big misunderstanding because I understood the keeper had cramp and was unable to go to the penalties. But it was not cramp and could go to the penalties."
On why he walked off towards the tunnel: "I needed to return to be quiet. He [Kepa] understood that I asked for a change for his physical problem and he said I haven't a physical problem. And he was right.
"I realised after when the doctor arrived. I have talked to him [Kepa] but only to clarify because now I have understand the situation."
