Why Is This So Rampant In Nigeria Today? by June24th: 5:11pm On Apr 21, 2017
Why is it that most graduates in Nigeria end up getting a job in a field that is not related to what they studied in school?

You see someone who has a Bachelors in Engineering working in a bank as a funds transfer staff, someone who studied Accounting is out there working in an oil firm, someone who studied Anatomy is out there working as a CSR in a hotel, a Political Science graduate is out there seeking employment in multi-national companies, and all that.

Why is it so rampant in Nigeria Please share your story with us.

Please what is wrong with the bolded? So everybody who studied political science should work in government or contest for elections? Political science is a diverse field which also includes administration so I still don't understand why they shouldn't be in MNC's

It just happens that most Nigerian graduates end up working in a field other than what they studied in school..

When supply for labour exceed their demand you would see this menace happening. The industries in Nigeria are few in number to absorb many graduate

There are quite a number of angle to this.

One is a excess applicant per job.

Another is performance. An engineer with with 2.2 or Even 3rd will easily do almost any repititve bank related task like CSR or even Cashier with one week training. Some fields are more mind- bending and give graduates advantage.

Another is corruption or connection mentality.

I think one of the reasons is because people gain admission for courses they never applied for and after graduating they see nothing bad in working in a sector different from what they studied

Most people in Nigeria don't go to school to follow
accomplishment, in the world, in their field of study, they want money. Their priorities are messed.

The others? I don't know.

You have a point, but I won't use the word "most". There are people that go to school for honest purposes, to accomplish things in life, but the bad thing is with the system.. Education system here in Nigeria is not encouraging compared to what we have in developed countries

To survive in Nigeria you have to be flexible and you need to have the ability to learn.
A bachelor degree is not suppose to limit you. There are so many field out there you can fit into as long as you have the ability to learn fast.

The worst thing you can do as a young graduate is to limit yourself to a particular field especially when the opportunity to work in that field is not presenting itself

I studied education in the university but right now I'm working as a cloud engineer in an IT firm.

I didn't limit myself, I learn as I go everyday. That's the key to survival.
