The Umbrella Academy

Finally found time to binge the whole thing. It's not a masterpiece, but as sci-fi goes, it's... fantastic. I was kinda skeptical about the show, which explains why it took me so long to commit. See, I thought I was gonna be watching another criminally overrated superhero tv show like Titans, but damn, it was so much more, so much better. Loved the concept, history, character development, and world building. A few pointers:

- Damn, that little kid that played number 5 can act! He played the most convincing adult in every scene. Also, his powers were by far the coolest.
- The Irish actor that played Klaus did a top job. The first time I realized it was him, I knew instinctively that he's gonna steal the show, he's a very talented method actor. Robert Sheehan makes me miss Misfits.
- Mary J Brige can't act.
- Luther was introduced as a sympathetic character earlier in the show, but as the show progressed, he becomes more and more exasperating, and thanks to his poor decision making, helped to cause the apocalypse. In fact, I'd say he's the harbinger of the apocalypse by proxy. He escalated everything when a de-escalation would have been wiser. What a muppet.
- I was rooting for Vanya at the end. They all treated her like sh*t, and deserve everything they got in return. Also, very ironic that she's by far the most powerful of them all.



This show is my favorite Netflix show this year (so far), even better than Russian Doll and Sex Education. Those were fantastic too.

Your article reminds me that there are still sane people on this thread. That I agree with it is just icing on the cake.

I actually decided to watch the show because of Aidan Gallagher (Five). He was my best character on Nicky, Ricky, Dicky and Dawn and I just had to see him take on a different and more challenging role and I'm so glad he delivered. Hope this is the beginning of an illustrious acting career for him.

I hope so too, but being a decent child actor doesn't always translate to an illustrious adult acting career. Typical example of this is Edward Furlong. Remember John Connor from Terminator: Judgement Day ? Yup. Billed as the next big thing in Hollywood, every movie studio wanted him in their movies. Alas, he couldn't handle the fame that his illustrious young acting career brung, got complacent, became a drug addict, lost his x-factor as a result, and subsequently disappeared into complete obscurity. Another example is the Home Alone actor (Macaulay, can't recall his last name). Another great potential that just couldn't handle the fame and pressure that comes with being an A-lister as a child actor.

... And Daniel Radcliffe. I know I know, he's grown into a decent enough actor, but he was far more stellar of an actor as a child.

I sincerely wish Aidan Gallagher won't end up like these guys.

Northern irish accent ain't thick, trust me. As rhotic English language accent goes, it's one of the pleasant ones, esp when compared to the Scottish varieties.

Watch a tv series set anywhere in Scotland, and you'd spend the majority of your time looking at the subtitles instead of what's actually going on in the show.

Jamie Fraser on outlander has a Scottish accent and i have never used subtitles for the show.

This particular show had me rewinding alot, some slangs said with the accent sounded like an entirely new language.

Nah. That's not a good source of counter-arguament, cuz Jamie Fraser has a very light Scottish accent. You can tell from listening to him that his accent has a tincture of RP (Received Pronunciation) accent in there. Basically, he spent some time in England, and thus, had his natural rhotic accent corrupted by the non-rhotic English accent.

Have you watched Broadchurch? Try deciphering DI Hardy's garbs without subtitles, and I will doff my hat to you. He speaks in a very thick Edinburgh accent, and that's one of the more pleasant Scottish accents.

Can't say I have. Have heard good things about it though. Planning on seeing some of it this weekend.

Damn, just finished How to get away with murder season 5 ,so fricking badass.
I am not a fan of crime and law serious but this series got me glued,the suspense is another level.
