If you mix emotion with public service what you will get is private or selfish service.Though we need passion to forge ahead and accomplish every task but we must realise or identify quickly when passion is driving us toward serving self rather than general public. |

Pascopele:Perception is very important in life. I learnt the hard way. Once people perceive a person as corrupt whether or not it is true they will always see you that way. Same way if they perceive you as not corrupt. In esense protect and guard your positive reputation as much as possible. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Pascopele:Ethno-religious bigotry is our biggest problem. If we do not shield people based on tribe/religion we can fight corruption. Even if GEJ had paved the streets of Nigeria with gold, the tribes who believe the own Nigeria wouid still have crufied him. Since he wouid not be errand boy for power brokers from those tribes. That was why they first gave him a chance. To use him. But he refused. What stops Buhari from creating a new effective agency and gradually scrap the rest? Did OBJ go to hell or heaven to bring EFCC or ICPC? The Shell BP oil man, Justin Welby who now Archbishop of Canterbury is doing great PR for Buhari. Nonsense. 2 Likes |

theoldpretender: I think u have missed d point completely. There's absolutely nothing to defend. If this govt has increased price of fuel& paying subsidy, then y was it protesting against it when GEJ did d same thing? Again if fuel was 87 during GEJ that means Nigeria paid more per litre. But at 147, Nigeria should b paying less per litre for subsidy. D question is, is this govt actually paying less subsidy on each litre of fuel? 3 Likes 2 Shares |

lexy2014: I'm not defending Buhari. The money he mentioned that GEJ paid does not include the debt that he left for Buhari, a debt which he was trying to avoid by raising fuel prices to 140 naira in 2012. Nigerians forced GEJ to reduce to 97 then to N87. But because the cost of importing fuel jumped from 99 naira in 2012 to 121 in 2014, while oil dropped it became unsustainable. By the time Buhari came around, landing cost was 132.We were selling fuel at N87. Oil was a5 30 per barrel. Buhari saw sense and remov3d subsidy by raising prices to 145. Subsidyy was gone till landing cost rose again to N150 and above... which is when Buhari brought subsidy again under the guise of under recovery. At the same time, the naira value is falling due to falling dollar revenues from falling oil prices, which is why fuel is higher, so to speak. And why cost of subsidy has gone up under Bubu, because the value of naira has gone down, meaning we need more naira than what we needed in 2013 for subsidy. Then there is an increase in vehicles, generators, etc...meaning we need more fuel, meaning more subsidy. Ultimately my point is subsidy has to go. And it should have gone since 2012. Not everything is PDP and APC. Both parties support subsidies . So do most Nigerians. It's hurting our economy 1 Like |

Pascopele: Not to talk of the fact that oil prices then averaged 90 dollars as against 50 dollars now which the administration is quick to use as its defence on the earnings side but is silent on the expenditure/accountability side. And now that fewer players control the market, scrutiny is completely lost in that tower of corruption called the NNPC they blatantly refuse to reform or shutdown. Anyway we are still in the season of elections. Nothing can be seen dispassionately so we just wait till governance resumes with our criticisms and alternate ideas. 1 Like |

theoldpretender: Not just that subsidy has to go but the price deregulated. That will put a permanent end to subsidies. Kachikwu advised him to deregulate at the time but he refused. This mess the country is in today would have been avoided. 2 Likes |
