Ash Wednesday serves as a reminder to that spiritual fact.

In a world increasingly driven and blinded by the pursuit of materialism which are ultimately fleeting, it serves as a pointer that in the end, everything is vanity and death and suffering are all too real.

It's not in the bible. The book of revelation 22:18 speaks against importing things that ar not not in the bible, into the bible. It says:
“I am bearing witness to everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this scroll: If anyone makes an addition to these things, God will add to him the plagues that are written in this scroll;
