The All Progressives Congress (APC) has been declared the winner of the Lagos State governorship election.

This is the second time the party will be winning the governorship election in the state since its formation in 2013.

Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who ran on the platform of the ruling party scored 739,445 votes to emerge victorious.

The governor-elect also won in all the local government areas in the state.

Jimi Agbaje of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 206,141 votes, according to official results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission, (INEC).

Already, the incumbent and outgoing governor, Akinwumi Ambode and the PDP candidate has congratulated the winner of the gubernatorial race.

Mr Sanwo-Olu in a tweet on Sunday hinted that Mr Agbaje called and congratulated him for his victory at the poll.

“At exactly 19: 07 I received a call. Thank you @Jimiagbaje for your congratulatory call filled with kind words,” he tweeted through his handle, @jidesanwoolu.

“It was an intense campaign and I am happy we can now focus on the very important job at hand. Delivering a Lagos that works for all,” the governor-elect added.

On his part, Mr Ambode who was defeated at the APC state primary by Sanwo-Olu also congratulated the winner.

“Hearty congratulations to the Lagos State Governor-Elect, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu and the Deputy Governor-elect, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat,” the outgoing governor tweeted Sunday evening.

“This is a victory for continuity in governance, victory for the APC and victory for all Lagosians. I wish them a successful term in office,” he added.

This election is very interesting ,God himself have show to us that HE IS THE ALMIGHTY and HE HIS ONLY CONSTITUTED AUTHORITY THAT IS UNQUESTIONABLE , He disappointed the powerful , He make the wishes of the ordinary people come true . We should learn from them that whatever we are today is by God's grace ,and He always have a better option than you if you feel you are too big HE will show you you are nothing without HIM . Congratulations to my good people of Lagos State .

the line APC is toying is not democratic. scaring voters and militarization of the country just so as to give figures out. so you mean PDP could not win even a state house of assembly sit in OJO, Ajeromi or even oshodi isolo? common this is not healthy for democracy

An average Yoruba in Lagos see Jimi agbaje as candidate of the Igbo . A victory for agbaje in Lagos is a victory for the Igbo. It means we will have not one but few Igbo commissioners in Lagos, it means when I go to a local government headquarter in Lagos I'll be greeted good morning in Igbo but I want my culture to be promoted etc.

In the east, indigenes of Abia are not allowed into Enugu civil service, indigenes of ebonyi are not allowed to work in Anambra.

Go to GRA in the east as a Yoruba man and try to buy a land, more likely they won't sell you one. Someone told me if you open a shop in the east, the chance of Igbo patronising you is zero. When they greet you in Igbo and you respond in English or Yoruba, they simply walk away saying this one is not oyi Igbo.

Yes, there might be one or two reasons or a million reasons to dislike B. A. Tinubu. However, if you fancy yourself a student or a player in Nigerian politics, it will do you lots of good to study and learn from him. Yeah you might question his character, juxtapose that with numerous corruption allegations(the negatives), an objective observer would admit that under him and his 'stooges' (Fashola, Ambode...Potentially Sanwo-olu), there have been many innovative governance (from time to time other states have sent delegates to come and learn about one policies or the other). To dislike a person is a matter of choice and personal preference, but to deny Tinubu his accolades is a crime.

Congrats to Babajide Sanwo-olu, Congrats to Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Congrats to A.P.C!!!!

You're promoting stupid hear says, my aunt is Anambra but works in Ebonyi civil service. Like who feeds you with this type of information. Igbos sell lands to other tribes too. Then someone told you if you open a shop there, they won't patronize you, tell me who told you that. People be making things up to paint some people black with no gains to make.

Please stop this tribal war, it's so unnecessary.
